I don't know a hell of a lot about him.

But this snippet from the Cokes web site is intriguing.

For a guy who has just been delisted

After playing just three games in two seasons, enjoyed a break-out year in 2013. Played 17 games and was one of the sides shining lights for the season. Elite running ability, football smarts and hard work saw Dalziell perform superbly at half-forward and through the middle of the ground.

And West Coast plummeted down the ladder. Coincidence?

They are not going to say 'Not good enough, too slow, good riddance!'

Maybe that was posted just prior to the trade week / fortnight / month / era (seemed to go on forever) in the hope that BP or CAC or some other gullible mugs were still around somewhere to take the bait????

Do those that shoot down every mention of discarded AFL players realise that we are looking for player 39 and 40 with our last two selections in the draft?

The option of picking up delisted players is just as reasonable as speculative teenagers.

2013 - 17 games, 15 goals and avg 16.4 disposals. Compare that to the likes of Tapscott, Blease, Nicholson etc etc.

I think he's unlucky to be delisted. Really not that far fetched to give him a year and add a little bit more competition for spots.

He can run but that is about it, gets plenty of ball at WAFL level due to superior fitness and also finds a bit of the ball on the wide expanses of Subi. Oppositions sides man up on Shuey Hurn and Gaff. Priddis get the ball on the outside and Dalziell and Masten are allowed by opponents to get as much ball as they like because they are not good enough to hurt you. They either turn it over, give off to a team mate under the pump or go backwards looking for another player to set up.

A no from me he is no better than players we already have

Not always, rpfc. It is possible to strike gold with a late pick in the draft, whereas with a discarded player you pretty much know what you're getting.

A few examples of good players picked after pick 40:

  • Taylor Walker (pick 75 in 2007)
  • Tom McDonald (pick 53 in 2010)
  • Nick Duigan (pick 70 in 2010)
  • Dane Swan (pick 58 in 2001)
  • Scott Burns (pick 90 in 1992)
  • James Hird (pick 79 in 1990)
  • Corey Enright (pick 47 in 1999)
  • Cameron Bruce (pick 64 in 1999)
  • Andrew Swallow (pick 43 in 2005)
  • Brent Harvey (pick 46 in 1995)
  • Justin Westhoff (pick 71 in 2006)
  • Robbie Gray (pick 55 in 2006)
  • Sam Fisher (pick 55 in 2003)
  • Adam Goodes (pick 43 in 1997)
  • Ryan O'Keefe (pick 56 in 1999)
  • Daniel Cross (pick 56 in 2000)
  • Chris Grant (pick 105 in 1989)

Personally, I'd rather take a punt on a speculative teenager on the slim chance that we could find something special, rather than go for someone like Dalziell.

Recruit a MethCoaster?

Next thing someone will say is lets get a few MessyDrug players!

Either way it will end badly

So lets all say NO to Drugs and stay any from these Clubs.

Pretty impressive list. Just shows you the lack of science in recruiting or they all would have been much higher.

That's just club website hyperbole. He's a dud.

And people here were slashing their wrists when we failed to draft him....

Dalziell will be picked up for sure by some other club. Playing 17 games this season and getting delisted was unlucky. A victim of WC's disorganised season. Perhaps he did not fit the requirements of the new coach? There will be a place for him at a few clubs.

No. There is too much science. The game needs more Gypsy fortune tellers, swami's and head bump readers.

You are 'picking and choosing' your stats on this and I have removed all those that are not in the last decade - the simple fact is that teenagers picked outside of the second round have a progressively lower success rate. It is hard to find the stats on it without doing it myself...

From 2004 to 2008 (not including FS picks and NSW scholarships like Walker which skew data, I have also removed mature age recruits):

149 teenagers were taken between Pick 1 and 30 with 99 of them playing more than 50 games and 43 of those reaching 100 games.

128 teenagers were taken between Pick 31 and 60 with 46 of them playing more than 50 games and 18 of those reaching 100 games.

So the success rate of picking teens to play 100 games in the first 30 picks to the next 30 drops from 28.9% to 14.1%.

(Note: Picks 1-10 is 38%, Picks 11-20 is 34.7%, Picks 21-30 is 14%, Picks 31-40 is 20.5%, Picks 41-50 is 11.9%, Picks 51-60 is 9.5%)

It's just so fraught picking teenagers in the draft; it is little wonder that Roos is a 'draft sceptic' in the words of Greg Baum.

I am not referring to any individuals; every thread on a delisted FA has multiple people saying "not an option."

It's fine to think that, it is also good to give an argument as to why they would not be a better option than whatever kid would be available at 40, 57, PSD2 or in the RD.

He was named after his mother and father. The "brad" bit is his dad. The "dd" is his mother.
