DB is a man of great integrity for a journo, but that does not mean he gets things right when he expresses an opinion - he's human after all.

Here's the things that has been missed in the "Dees give up Pick 2 scenario".

1) The Dees recruiting staff have cocked up high picks in recent times so doubtless would have been [censored] scared about this year.

2) The most likely pick 2, before Kelly was mooted this week, was Aish and he has struggled when tagged at championships and SANFL Finals. The draft talent is not considered deep this year but there is a range of opinions on who is best from picks 2-12 and almost all are midfielders. In keeping pick No.9 we still get a midfileder who may be as good as pick No.2.

I think the punchline in our willingness to part with pick 2 is that our preferred player or players may likely be there at pick 9. Personally I believe that it is because there are no strong bodied pure mids at the very pointy end (that is just my assumption). I believe that Roos is attempting to build a core of strong bodies who are well rounded footballers, not necessarily the glamourous types.

It will be interesting to hear from Mahoney at the post draft debrief. I will also be interested if the no. 9 selection gets us another strong bodied mid. It may mean that Tyson ends up being a bargain having effectively given up pick 20 for him. I know that this possibility has been covered.

Roosy's contempt for draft pick numbers is well documented, he with Taylor will pick the bloke he wants.

So to sum up, what's the consensus on Barrett?

We need to send him a Deed Poll form to change his name officially to what it is de facto - Richard Head.

Human paraquat.

He's just p!ssed because we got Viney for 2nd round pick and they had to use 1st round pick for McDonald.

Where's your 1st round pick Damo...? Where's your pick Damo? Where's your 1st round pick Damo???

I listened to him today on SEN. He certainly is a very negative person. Glass half empty type of guy. I think Wallace stitched him up though.

Cameron and Prendergast are no longer with us, so I'm not sure that those in charge now would be soiling themselves about the mistakes of others.

There's a good chance Barrett believes Mark Neeld is still coaching. He may not have seen PR in an MFC shirt yet and that's why he thinks this is a bad trade.

No, he thinks it's a bad trade because it's Melbourne, with or without Paul Roos. If norf had made this trade he'd be asking Wallace if it is the missing link to the GF!

I think it is a great deal....Tyson is ready to go as a young player...we have had enough babies.

We MUST be winning some games next year...Roos knows this

Barrett is a hack Journo.

Wyl, you just did a disservice and probably offended all the hack journalists out there, who let's be honest, would never claim Barrett as one of their own...

Correct. If we get the bloke we want at 9 and IF he was the bloke we would have taken at 2 we will have done brilliantly. Even our second choice will be a great result. Barrett, Robbo and Denham will of course call it a monumental failure.

glad to see you worked this out

you are feeling better arent you !! ^_^

the purple [censored] just slammed us again on trade radio, with his usual scatter gun calls. The guy has no idea.

How can you call Cross a bad pickup when we didnt give up anything to get him?

He has concerns about the way we are trading, his point is as valid as any of ours. People who are getting upset at him are really just worried themselves about our recruiting. Neither Barrett nor anyone else will be right or wrong until the season starts.

it not a matter of having an opinion

it wouldn't matter who we traded the little [censored] would still bag us

We (members/supporters) knew going into this trade/free agency period exactly what our list needed.

Our list management department has achieved what we set out to achieve.

Barrett can call it scattergun and disagree with our approach, that's his prerogative. My prerogative is to choose to ignore, or, as I have chosen, to listen, disagree and conclude that he's a [censored].

Gotta love democracy

Love to actually know what his recruiting strategy would have been instead.

I think we have recruited really well. Yes it is a Risk the whole drafting free agency process is.

It's poker. You play to win.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
