WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DOM TYSON

It looks like its Tyson, Picks 9 & 53 for pick 2, 20 & 74. At first glance I'm underwhelmed - I understood trading pick 2 for an established midfielder such as Sloane, Rockliff, Shuey, S Selwood or even Shiel at a pinch. I cannot understand sacrificing another high draft pick for a kid who hasn't yet made it over one who might be a star (Aish/Kelly).

Tyson has played 13 of a possible 44 games due to injury, Collingwood will pay less for Taylor Adams who is far more established and so far more durable. Here's hoping we nail pick 9.

I stand to be corrected but Dom went to Trinity Grammar in Kew and the whole family are Demon Supporters.

If so that has to be a real plus+++

My old school (hated the place).

And to put an even more positive spin on it, depending on what positions people are recruiting for, pick 9 is actually a bit higher than 9th best... assuming after Boyd they were all mids, then that is 8th best mid at worst; but I'm guessing there are some others in there that aren't mids.

If we got one of Freeman, Sheed or Crouch with Pick 9 then it's a big win for the club. If we still recruit Vince then we have added to the list Hogan, Tyson, Pick 9, Vince and Michie. That's a very good off season for our club, and our best one for a long, long time.

Dom Tyson is a great get ...

whats left ...Nd picks ??? 9 *mid (freeman?) , 36 * small fwd, 53 * young full back ???

to add to Hogan, Michie #54 trade, Tyson, Vince (compo trade)

Zac Jones might be marooned!!!

Yes, assuming we trade silvia compo for Vince and unless Zac makes it to pick 36 (unlikely), he won't be a Dee.

Forget about his form this year I'd say. Can't expect a young midfielder in a team not getting a kick to impact games after a significant time out.

His form in his first year was patchy. Games of 10, 6 and 4 touches, likely the sub on some of those occasions. But in the other games he went 15, 21, 17, 18, 17, 24, 26. Also 4 goals in 10 games in 3 games he made minimal impact shows he can get on the end of it. Not bad tackle numbers either.

My biggest concern is the knee injury.

Besides that I would've loved to keep pick 20 but I understand why. We are getting a pick 3 for 2 years ago for pick 2 and moving from pick 20 to pick 9. It all depends on Tyson's ability to live up to that pick 3 and what we can do with that pick 9.

I'm thinking we head to the draft with picks 9, third round pick - 40ish and GWS' 4th round pick. Sylvia compo on the trade block for Vince or any other at this stage.

Tyson has star written all over him.

Adams is a battler who will never really impact games. Good accumulator thats about it.

On paper I'd say the trade is a pretty fair deal for both clubs. I admit, I was hoping pick 2 would be used in a straight swap for a shuey or a rockliff type of player.

However, we are all crying out for immediate improvements in 2014. Tyson has been in the system for a couple years now and once he gets his body right, can have an immediate impact.

Much happier with Dom Tyson instead of the Bugg and Buntine combo that was being rumoured.

Another way of looking at is:

If we rate a kid that we can get at pick 9 as high as Aish, Kelly etc....Matt Crouch springs to mind

If this was to be the case, we would effectively be getting Dom Tyson for pick 20 & an upgrade from 74 to 53.

Starting to like it a lot now - Great trade MFC

Listed as 186cm but I'd say he gets every bit of that (maybe it's the hair) and left footer which is a much needed positive.

The heights important because Freo are revolutionizing midfield play with Fyfe, Mundy and Barlow. We can't be sending out Nath Jones and Viney alone. Michie has a little size. Trengove is decent in the air but we need some midfielders closer to the 190cm mark.

Don't make the mistake of writing a guy like Adams off - the kid can seriously play footy, and has been one of the best performed mids for GWS outside of Toby Greene and Callan Ward in their first two seasons in the comp. Tyson will be a star, but so will Adams.

and Norf have committed to mc Donald at 8.

On another note I went back over the neafl stats for the year and it looks like he returned from injury in late May and started slowly but was consistently in the best players for the last few months which saw him get a couple of games. Knee seems sound. Get a good pre season into him and now I am excited. Last year we went out and picked up the rejects. This year we are getting the guys whose clubs would still like to hold onto. Good work dees

Has David Myers passed on us? If not, how do we get him? 190cm+ and kicks goals from everywhere.

Jeremy Howe is going to be a talent without a role soon I suspect. Can he become the tall midfielder?

If he doesn't become a tall mid - he is going to have to learn to play forward both tall AND small with the timber we have up there now.

That is exactly right. It's extremely common in the NFL and not so much over here.

If your best available is on everyone elses draft boards at 9-15 why wouldn't you move back?

I thought they were Tigers people, thus he tried hard to get a trade to richmond last period?

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
