would one swallow make a summer?

Swallow is my choice. We need an instant lift to our midfield and he is bordering on A grade currently, probably running at A-. With Swallow, Jones, Trengove and the developing Viney and Kent, it means we have the physical capacity to stay in and around the contested ball or stoppages and not be instantly pushed aside. An Swallow is a renowned defensive spread player and this is our major midfield weakness. How many times have we seen 2 - 3 opposition players running forward of the stoppage and only 1 demon defender chasing?

My preference:

1. Swallow

2. Sloan

3. Adams

I don't know. Does Adams Swallow?

A statement like this has been begging for some time - congrats Choko - you are the first who could not resist the temptation!

Aren't their doubts over Swallows knees holding up to run in the midfield ? Not sure about any Adams downside ...

You'd think that we would do a thorough assessment of his knees before we moved on him.

He was supposed to be an absolute gun when he was recruited, dare I say it, a generational player.

Swallow hands down! Adams is good although at times a little overrated.

I see Adams as the Josh Caddy of last year, he is potentially available so everyone from every club want him, therefore he must be insanely good...

Both, plus Conca and Sloane.....biggest player coup since Barrassi went to North.

They will follow the great man.

He's superior to Josh Caddy.

Adams is actually able to find the footy where as even when Caddy was at Gold Coast and much hyped he struggled to find the footy.

I am of the belief that Adams is a way better pickup

It depends on what you have to pay.

All things being equal the answer is Swallow, but that doesn't inhibit my thoughts on Adams, who I'd also love to get.

Getting both would be a cunning stunt.

I bet miss Upton has a stunning... personality.

I'd prefer Swallow, but based on draft position and development, he would cost far more than Adams.

Pick 2 for Adams and pick 10 is more appealing than Swallow for pick 2

We can't put all our eggs in the basket of a young-ish midfielder. We're better off getting 2-3 young prospects such as Adams and a Freeman/Bontempelli in the draft rather than just swallow

Although Pick 2 and 21 for Swallow and pick 8 is very appealing

Or instead aren't there?

Swallow has the upside to become a genuine elite mid like his brother, when he was drafted most recruiters thought he would be even better than his brother, hence selection at pick 1

Adams looks a good player but not sure he has as much improvement in him as Swallow

would be thrilled if we somehow got both.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
