I've heard that he doesn't want to do it. That's why he's been an assistant at Geelong, StKilda and then Sydney and only now has he been talked up. You'd think with that resume he would've been all the rage for the last few years if he was keen.

thats the impression i get from him as well. might be wrong, just the feeling about Tudor... probably a fantastic senior assistant.

maybe we should chase Tudor as the longterm senior assistant, & let him help choose the young Headcoach in waiting?

Agree totally, Voss has 5 yrs coaching experience.

2-3 yrs under Roos would be great for him.

3 time premiership captain.

Would be a great fit IMO.

The successor plan is a great idea, going to give us a great coach and mentor. A great successor to learn and carry on the future direction.

I imagine there will be a long queue of candidates wanting to learn off Roos, be part of the growth then lead the team.

I reckon this would appeal to Cameron Ling who has indicated his desire to be a coach and has mentored Jack Trengrove this year.

Throw in a Brett Kirk perhaps also, whom would have to seek opportunity elsewhere to coach. Even the mention of Voss, has merits.

This is a great day for the club.

This concept is a long way off IMO.

It is a good idea to get a well credentialed assistant coach with the aim of succession, but really it should be for the future board to decide the coach at that time. And Roos may change his mind (again) and want to coach for longer if things work out.

Still the way it has been advertised makes it a reasonably attractive job.

The main thing in the successor plan is the two very successful coaches who learnt under Roo's. Longmire and Lyon.

Both have come out of the Roo's school coaching.

I suspect they'll take 2 or 3 young fellas as assistants, & time will then tell how they learn their trade.

nearing the end of 2 or more years, will show who's got the goods.

It sounds like Roos is interested in having a possible senior coach in each of his line coaches. It seems like Jade Rawlings has done a great job with the backline this year so it would be good to keep him. In terms of other possible coaches I rekon it'd be good to get Voss and Ling in. Both are premiership captains, are respected and seem to be keen in coaching. Ling is untried but you can imagine the teaching and coaching he would be able to provide. Voss didn't seem to be out of depth as a senior coach but to step up into head coach with no tutalage would have been tough. If he comes to Melbourne now, he knows he's got one of the best coaches to learn from. It would be good to keep Davey and McDonald around as development coaches if possible.

Yes, I think Voss makes a lot of sense. It gives him the apprenticeship he never had from a master coach, and he has shown enough this year under difficult circumstances and a grossly under-resourced football department that he has great leadership qualities.

The other thing I'd say is that the way PR explained the plan is his preference would be to have two or three senior assistants vying for the top job and then they chose the best, and Roos would then take a management and Director of Football role at the club. how about he becomes PJ's successor? Now that would make a pleasant change - a CEO who knows something about football. I tell you, we are starting a revolution here...

Where did people get the idea he wanted a few 'vying or the job' - he sounded like, and read like, they are going to appoint a senior assistant in the next few weeks who will become head coach in 2016 or 2017.

Roos talked about 'certainty' for the players for the next decade over who their coach is - the senior assistant.

While Voss might be more experienced, I can't imagine he'd be particularly willing to learn - even off a guy like Paul Roos.

Cameron Ling on the other hand would be much more amenable to instruction. In this instance, getting someone with less experience might be better, since he'll be learning from the absolute best.

Simpson. He has the same calm, direct, strong persona as Roos and his knowledge of footy/coaching is now very strong.

Bassett. His record with Norwood in South Australia is incredible. He is known for being calm, ruthless and a great communicator.

Voss. His first 18 months at Brisbane - especially his list management decisions - were horrendous. But he learnt quickly, moved on and have a look at the game the Lion were playing in the 2nd half of this year! Inspirational, uncompromising, and his main strength is developing a midfield.

One of these three would suit me fine.

Tudor's name is a recent development as he was not considered for any of Port Adelaide, GWS, Adelaide over the past 2 years. Doesn't appeal at this stage although my knowledge of him is limited.

Ling sounds great - I respect him greatly - but he has no coaching credentials and would not be ready in 2-3 years

Kirk. Great player, great captain, but he comes across as a New Age [censored]. His playing was inspirational. His communicating is not.
