I'd like ling.

It looks like Tudor will coach the lions.

I'd be pretty happy with Simpson and Ling

Posted

Cam Ling would be nice. I'm sure Roos will make the best choice though

Ling?

Can we get an untried coach?

Shouldn't we get someone with a bit of experience but is still young (is there anyone that fits that bill?)

I guess we can get a bunch of possible successors and choose the best when the time comes (can't heart to have a handful of aces in our deck)

There must be an enthusiastic, young successor out their with some coaching experience.

No doubt PJ has cast his net before signing in Roos.

Posted

Can't we just concentrate on the coach that just signed at the moment?

Roos' deal is open ended anyway, this successor could be taking over in 3 years or even 8 years.

Posted

Voss? or Kirk?

Voss is a possibility if he is ready to learn and still has the enthusiasm.

Bit early for this Guys...i want Roos for at least 3 years.

The longer we can have a successor under Roos - the more they can learn (not just from Roos but also about the team)

They have put it out there from the announcement today.

Hence, it's on the table that they are likely to decide Melbourne's next coach with the appointment of the Senior assistant.

Yes but FCS the guy has just had his press conference.

Roos has to make this work. At the moment it is about HIM not who takes over.

Could we steal Burns from West Coast? .....(evil laugh)

Ling from channel 7?

Leigh Tudor from Sydney?

Who else?

This is our chance to get the best coaching panel in the league!

No need to put all our eggs in the one basket.

We will rule the world!!!!

Posted

Cameron Ling, two reasons first we get the premiership coach and then a premiership captian from two great clubs of the past decade. The other reason you get Ling and you hope Roos does 3 years, you get a Simpson, Tudor or another current assistant he most likely does 2.

Posted

I'd be happy for Tudor, Simpson or Scott Burns

If we went with Ling I'd be much more confident if Roos was keen to stay for 3 years.

I don't want another false start rebuild ala Bailey

Posted

Three years is ages. Who knows who will be the next big assistant by then?

I agree with WYL, let's just focus on the Roos era for now.

Posted

Michael O'Loughlin, first indigenous senior coach of an AFL team.

Bit left field but I'll put it out there.

Posted

Brett Ratten

Michael Voss

Matthew Primus

Jade Rawlings

Paul Williams

Cameron Ling

James McDonald

They are my list any one of them will do me just fine as a successor.

First group would be my top priority as i feel they didnt even do that poorer job and really are unlcuky to have lost their job, all worked hard at afl level and could easily walk into the role after roos.

second group relatively untried, but would be good!

My ideal coaching group would have Voss or Ratten as the head assistant

Cameron ling and James Mcdonald as inclusions into our coaching ranks

Posted

Ling is a perfect fit. He will have plenty of time to learn while Simpson may think he is ready to go now. We are in a superb position to set up a decade of no dramas.

Posted

If it were to be Ling, as already stated it would probably mean that Roos would be likely to stay on into a 3rd year as coach of our club, and that can only be a good thing, for the supporters, the players and Ling!

Posted

For a moment there I thought you were talking about Roos' successor for 'On the Couch'.

It couldn't be Hird, could it?

Healy frowns upon peptide use.

Matthew Primus! Now that really is putting the Mad into Mad Melbourne. Have a look how much better Port are now they've got a coach who knows what they are doing.

GAMEDAY: Match SIM vs North Melbourne

It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
