I thought alastair lynch made a good point when he said that wines will have a real struggle with his weight when he hits 24/25, and that could have repercussions on his longevity in the game

I would have been happy for a number of our guys to have a weight problem down the track, a la Morton, Gysbert, Blease, Watts, Cook, and more. As a general rule I would be drafting kids who are physically ready to go from day one. They are not carrying chronic problems at draft time suh as OP.

Anyway we know it is all about player development. Boy Hinkley sure put some development into Wines inside three months. I was at the first match at the Gee and the first bounce when he grabbed the ball and rooster it forward. We had been training at elite levels for months but got absolutely pumped by the Power.

I just think we made yet another poor choice considering the position we are in. Toumpas yes when you are on the rise, Wines when you are floundering on the bottom.

Wowie Wines.

The kid tonight was probably in the top 3/4 players on the ground.

Kicked the crucial goals.

Now i have no doubt that Toumpas will be an absolute star, but Wines may actually just be better.

If we could have Toump, Wines and Viney that would be great, one can dream.

But seriously, wow

kids a jet..

Well if you think about it if we didnt get Hogan we could have had Wines, Toumpas and Viney.. you can build a formidble midfield around that..

true, true.

But it looks like Hogan could become the next big thing in the forward line so im still happy with the decision.

but imagine....

Roos might see it differently

I would not be surprised if Hogan played at centre half back

Wines is a port player and to me he looks quite content being there

No point using what ifs

Ollie Wines has not stopping since the nationals last year, the kid is a beast.

He'd be my fav AFL player - barring Ablett Jr.

Love the way Ollie hunts the ball, he is a born leader, same as Viney.

His average stats for the year are pretty much the same as vineys (a handball and a half extra per game, about 19 disposals to 17.5). Toumpas averaged 12.

Good first years from Viney and wines, both have a long way to go to be afl players. But Toumpas' stats aren't bad, especially considering he had a couple of Very low disposal games.

Give the kid another preseason or two and let him find his way. He looks to have all the attributes to be a player plus Viney and wines are the same type of player, Toumpas gives us something else.

Bitterly disappointed with Toumpas' output in finals so far.

Really Nasher . Poorer effort.

The comparison is someone who CAN play at finals pace and do well as to a player still struggling in a rabble.

Reality is Wines is far more polished and capable right now. He is hardly likely to undergo a massive reverrsal. Is way ahead of Toumpas

Could Mouse pull off the absolute insult and get the scum up over the Toiges. Wouldn't he relish the fuming from Eddie . For that its tempting to wish for. But...go Toiges :)

Am impressed by Hardwick.

I want Carlton to win, it would be hilarious.

Me too. Malthouse to progress further in the finals than Buckley. Sign me up for some of that.

Plus all this "Go Richmond!" crap that seems to have permeated across the league is grating on me. I want them to be bundled out at the first hurdle.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
