Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

I would guess this has been addressed (I only tap into this thread occasionally) but having Fletcher and Watson represent Australia would certainly spark interest from international media.

Playing banned atheletes would be the main topic when reporters quiz coaches and captain regarding the tour.

I didn't realise that the result of this was so weak.

So you would need to go back to the Festina scandal in 1998 when the entire team were banned.

Bing181 you might find this article interesting. Someone has compiled what they call the 15 biggest doping scandals in cycling going back to the very first evidence of doping in 1886. I didn't realise that Tom Simpson who is so famous for dying in the middle of le Tour on Mount Ventoux in 1967 that there is a monument on the spot where he died, tested positive for amphetamines in his autopsy. Also didn't know that Eddy Merckx tested positive at the 1969 Giro and was banned. Here is the url to the article if you or anyone else is interested. http://www.totalprosports.com/2012/06/15/15-biggest-doping-scandals-in-cycling-history/#1

IT the phrase "they all doped" in the Tour goes back to the beginning even as simple as riders being drunk. They used to stop off at cafe's grab as much wine and beer as they can carry and ride on.

beyond laughable.... its plain embarrassing !!

Regard it as a portent of things to come

A pattern in the tealeaves

Auspices

Signs of benificent favour from the gods

Ordained by entities in the AFL who mortgaged their souls long long ago ...

Why would the AFL allow someone who refused to challenge/answer a show cause notice and now is on the registry of findings to play for Australia?

Does anyone know how many Essendon people work for the AFL?

I thought the comment from Evans regarding his not knowing the identity of the 34 due to privacy reasons as beyond laughable but blatantly a lie.

As is the AFL...as is the Football operations manager , wouldnt know who they were...ffs

That whole mob is corrupt

The Irish are hardly in a position to judge though...

I'm not sure the angst here. The HS named them all in an article about 9 months ago - it is public knowledge. It was about Matk Robinson's only exclusive in this whole affair, and done with very dubious journalistic ethics.

If there was an ASADA/WADA question overhanging an athlete or swimmer, would they be allowed to compete in further meets?

NO

Their position may not be squeaky clean but it's far more impressive than what has been on show in the AFL/NRL.

Good point. They haven't challenged the notices.

Good point. They even used to smoke cigarettes while riding, especially in preparation for the mountain stages. The theory was smoking opened up your lungs and increased your lung capacity. There was a great full size photo in a bike shop in Sydney of four riders riding in le Tour sharing cigarettes.

That theory must have come from the Herald-Sun

Actually, no again.

The Festina riders were forced out of the Tour that year by the Tour promoters. Individual riders were sanctioned - though most for only 6-8 months - but there was no UCI ban of Festina, and the Festina team continued to race (with non-suspended riders).

Once again, to my knowledge, there have never been any WADA-connected bans of teams, and it certainly hasn't happened in cycling. Will be interesting to see what happens at Essendon. As has been pointed out already, this is a first.

It was partly in response to the Festina affair (amongst others) that WADA was setup and the penalties and rules started to get much tougher.

I like the story about Ernest Schackleton and his crew who were marooned in the Antatctic for over a year on the ice. In his log he said he ordered that only the barest essential supplies be taken from his stricken ship and that included tobacco rations for all hands. Of course they all survived their monumental trek to safety.

Not all 34. I think he named 12 current EFC players suspected of being involved plus a couple who were no longer at the club.

You're right with your comment about the dubious journalistic ethics.

Big difference: as far as I am aware cigarettes were not and probably still are not banned substances.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
