Will not care.. As long as he plays 250 plus games and wins a few flags as captain!

So if he doesn't play 250 games and win a few flags at captain, you *will* care that he wasn't nominated?

i can see Kent becoming a huge steal out of last years draft, our recruiters really got it right, even clisby has been impressive, the older recruits are abit of a worry but i reckon the coach was probably pushing that.

In the National Draft they got it very right: Dean Terlich, Matt Jones & Dean Kent, all from relatively late picks

Yeah that's what i meant mate, they did a fantastic job, even clisby has come on abit.

First-year player Brad Crouch was again one of Adelaide's best, with 26 touches, six marks and five tackles.

If he hasn't won one, id say its his this week

Pretty sure he has one already, going to be one hell of a player though

... write a letter of complaint to the selectors

Last week:

Jack Viney (in a losing team) 9 kicks 13 handballs 22 disposals 4 marks 2 tackles

Zac Williams (off a hbf) 11 kicks 10 handballs 21 disposals 5 marks 3 tackles

It must have been a close thing but Jack's due ...

This week:

Jack Viney (again in a losing team) 7 kicks 17 handballs 24 disposals 2 marks 1 tackle

... in a game where G Ablett Jr had only 19 touches.

Is there anyone else in the running?

As a matter of interest, who are the selectors?

His brothers not bad either 'D26'. Matt looks more like Rory Sloane than Brad, probably the hair.

I don't know the rules of eligibility, so is a player who only played 7 games last year (first season) eligible for this year's Rising Star? If that is the case, then I think Freo's Lachie Neale will walk it in this week.

Yeah, wouldn't be at all upset if his brother is wearing Red and Blue next year, if we were to get a PP i wouldn't be surprised if we pulled the trigger on him early, just the sort of player we need right now.

Couch got it in round 14, so I gotta believe that this is Viney's week. Any other young players put in put in good games, apart from Kent?

Viney is the player that gives me hope right now, there is no player at the club who hunts the ball like he does. Jonesy included IMO.

See my question above re eligibility... Freo's Lachie Neale put in a very very good game and scored 3 goals, but he played 7 rounds last year, so I'm unsure whether he qualifies or not.

I think the criteria is

- played 10 games or less in previous season

- and under 20 years of age at beginning of the season

I might be wrong, but that's how I remember the rules.

Don't know how old Lachie Neale is.

Thanks for that... Neale turned 20 in May, so if your criteria are correct, I think he will get the nod. 26 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles and 3 goals straight.

Gys got nominated in successive seasons.

just shows not to worry too much about nominations

According to Wikipedia, the player must be under 21 on Jan 1st of the award year, so Neale looks safe to win.

Also can't have been suspended (Dustin Martin).

Rory Laird got it.

One must remember Viney missed 8 games in the middle of the season, while blokes like Laird haven't missed a game since round 4.

I'd say Viney is behind a few in line for a nomination.

You have got to be kidding me? if viney was playing in a stronger team he'd be dominating! getting 25 touches for Melbourne is like 50 anywhere else,

the team is bloody lucky to get 25 touches some games.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
