If we can get him for the right price and he will be the best available then we go for it. I don't want to do what the Pies have done and pass on guys like James Stewart and Jake Kelly to only see them blossom elsewhere. If he has the potential to be a player and he is there for the right price then I would hope we would jump all over it.

Chuck in the bid and see what happens. Right now we'd probably get him at the price the Eagles got Alec Waterman i.e. their last live pick in the draft. Not a bad thing at all.

Totally agree. If it doesn't work out then it's not going to hurt too much, and if it does then we look like champions. Win/win.

Yeah, good point. Jake Kelly is having a good year, looks a good prospect. Stewart is no mug either, he'd be getting lauded over in any other side bar GWS.

If we could get Lovett for a pie and coke, we'd be rapt. I like contested ball players as rookies, late picks. Vandenberg a prime example.

A lot of the top rated players today - Rockliff, Parker, Sloane - all slid through because they were perceived to be too slow for AFL.

If he's built like his dad he'll be hard to move off the ball. Very low centre of gravity and 'low' running action, hardly lifted his feet off the ground, but always knew where the ball was going to be.

Definitely worth a punt.

In the new father son system, what happens if no other team bids on him and we want him?

Last pick maybe.. Not sure, interesting question.

He was touted an early second rounder before this year.

Even if Lovett doesn't play much this year, I hope we take him. His old man played at the elite level, and coached at a reasonably high level.

Jake would be well versed in what it takes to play football at an elite level. I would rather take a punt on this kid than an Irishman who hasn't even played the game.

Yet we see teams every year punting on International players who never even grace the field.

Going by Roos comments on Roos views I suspect we may pass.

Sounds like he thinks it's all getting a bit to hard to secure Father Sons.

I think he is just speaking in general. If Lovett slides to our last pick we would probably take a punt I'd imagine.

I don't mind the new system as I think most times it won't affect the side drafting that much.

Been doing some detective work to find out what is happening with Jake.

So he played for the Stingrays until the Vic Country teams were named. At that point we have yet to see him named in the TAC cup. I'm not suprised he hasnt cracked the starting 22 as yet for Country - they are very strong. But with only 2 games remaining and the championship already locked - hopefully he is able to get a game.

As for his TAC cup:

Round 8: 9 touches 4 tackles

Round 7: 14 touches 4 tackles (named as one of the best on)

Round 6: 13 touches 6 tackles

Round 5: 15 touches 1 tackle

Round 4: 18 touches 1 tackle

Round 3: DNP

Round 2: 18 touches 2 tackles

Although they arent awe inspiring, he made the Vic Country team on the back of them and is named in the guts every week. Dandenong are 3rd on the ladder so hopefully we will see Lovett deep in the finals action. Most of the guys over at bigfooty have Lovett coming to us with our last pick. I like the romance of the father-son so hoping he does and hope he builds for the dees.

If anyone else has any info please post it. Thanks

don't worry

his old man was a slow starter, playing 60 games in the reserves (mostly hawthorn) before establishing himself and playing over 200 games and representing victoria many times

Hawthorn were a GREAT team when he was in the magoos there. It was a great grounding for him.

He should be a demon regardless. Adds to the romance of the Demon uprising. Viney, Lovett, Stretch.

Good for memberships for the older crowd. To have old names running around is good for the club. Lovett sounds like an ideal late pick - that could reap rewards.

Inside ball winners are good picks anywhere in the draft - let alone later on.

I think picking better players and having a better team will be good for memberships for everyone.

You said it - at the right price.

If he is around the best available at the pick available then his family history could tip the scale....but not for overs.

In a week with almost zero good footy news, i thought it was great to see Jake named BOG for Stingrays on the weekend.

Lets hope he can finish the year off really strongly and push for selection.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
