Until the club knows the future of Clark, I don't think they'll be trading any up and coming key forwards.

You can never have too many talls.

If/when Mitch Clark come back, surely he won't be right to play ruck unless he's proved his fitness through a run of matches.

Fitzy is our Leigh Brown. 2 metres tall, agile, strong, good below his knees, ruck ability. I don't know, right now it's going to be very hard to justify dropping him.

Late pick at best but he looked mobile and can take a contested mark. Jamar and Spencer take very few marks. We are in need of a ruckman to assist Gawn down the track.

Don't see that happening. Not a bad trade but I can't see Carlton going for that. Garlett was close to AA earlier in the year and I think Malthouse would probably like him. He just doesn't like the combination of the 3 amigo's. I can't fathom why he hasn't redeployed Yarran in the backline but hey that's fine.

Good on him if he does, it will show real commitment seeing many clubs will make strong offers and we mistreated him as badly as any player to play the game over the last 4 and a half terrible years.

Clark may not play again. Forward depth you say? Let's see.

Unlike others who have gone from gumby to great I'm not sure the interest from other clubs in Fitzy would be all that strong. He doesn't strike me as a key forward and if thrust into that position he'd struggle. Quick forward ruck who can run but isn't that strong in the ruck.

And midfields can be got without selling the farm. Can you point to the Swans early draft picks within their midfield. McVeigh and who else? And he's more a running back than a midfielder anyway.

If we are looking for improving our midfield with immediate impact then we will need to trade value. You raise the Swans midfield you are right it is not early picks but it is not first year kids either. Aside from Kennedy who was a brilliant get and Mitchell, their mids are made up of players they have invested 3+ years in from drafting. Are we willing to load up on kids and develop? If we are to trade successfully we need to consider where we have surplus for clubs that may pay overs and forward is where our best gamble would be.

So are quality 'A grade' midfielders.

I never understood that Good talls are hard to find but good mids are a dime a dozen.

We've had early picks, how many quality A grade midfielders have come through.

If Fitzpatrick can draw a good midfielder, it is a no brainer IMO but again not sure if Fitz will draw what we want.

As mentioned on the Clark update thread, Fitzy must stay at least for another year if nothing more as an alternate big forward in case, as looks increasingly likely, Clark is finished.

IF Clark came good, and we cannot know that until we are into 2014, AND Hogan produces as expected, AND Dawes remains fit, AND Gawn remains fit and progresses, and Spencer becomes an athletic ruckman, THEN and only then should he be even considered as a trade.

I think it would be worth trading a key forward provided Clark gets over his foot issue. We are a little top heavy. I would not want it to be Fitz though, and the others are all in contract (bar Watts who we should not even consider trading). Fitz is a perfect option for the second ruck role. We have three first ruck options in Jamar Spencer and Gawn, but none of them are well-suited to the backup position as they aren't much good outside the ruck. Fitz is more or less build to play that role. The only other option we have there is Clark who I would prefer to see playing as a permanent forward. By that logic, as I have said before, Dawes could well be playing a Casey next year simply for balance. The other option is to sacrifice a bit of mobility in the midfield and play with four tall forwards.

Dawes will not be playing at Casey, RM. His onfield leadership is far too important. He straightens us up just as he did Collingwood. With our inexperienced forwardline he's even more important on the ground for us.

If Clark returns we will shape up with Clark, Dawes and Hogan in the forward fifty, nothing surer. Watts will play between a wing and forward fifty, while Fitzy will have to improve his field kicking and ruck work to get a regular starting spot.

We are on the same page. If Watts stays, if Clark is fit and if Fitzy attracts a good midfielder then it's a win win. I just doubt very much that all those things will happen, particularly the last.

Good mids are very hard to get in trades and I can't really remember the last good one traded that didn't have a "go home" factor attached. And if that mid is available he will have a lot of choices that are better than us.

Can you give me some examples of possible trades? Would you do Fitzpatrick for Mitch Wallis? I think you're overestimating Fitzy's worth atm. He's still very speculative even with a good finish to the year. If I was another club someone like Jesse White would be much more attractive.

I am happy to keep Fitzpatrick and I am happy to see whether he continues to develop.

But if our luck changes and Watts stays, Clark is right, and Fitz keeps on coming - we should pull the trigger on a trade.

I don't think this year isn't the best time for that trade for various reasons.

Where we've got surplus real trade value is in medium mid/fwds - Sylvia, Howe, Watts. Sylvia is not tradeable because of he's UFA. but if he signs ...

The only thing our list has a surplus of is VFL players and I don't think there is much trade value in those.

We have very little to trade, any player that some one would see is good should be kept IMO
