Barret gave us a "D+" for our trade period.

 [censored]!

Kept saying we gave away pick 2 for Tyson - I don't think he knows it was a bit more complicated then that.

The other guy gives Sydney a "D" and Barret says "I think that's a little harsh..... they landed Buddy"

Wearing glasses doesn't make you smart Barret!

I would have of loved to get Travis Varcoe at Melbourne for pick 58 (or whatever pick 50 something we have) Geelong are pretty much given their players away we could have jumped on him and threw him on the wing or he could of been that small crumbing forward we are looking for, love the guy, wonder if he gets delisted by Geelong and we could pick him up?

Maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong. We will have a pretty good idea next season I guess.

What a disaster. No photoshopped pics.

If we had a superb well-staffed media department people would be moaning why isn't the club focussing on winning games instead of all this useless media hype.

It's an outrage. And here I am worrying about the midfield.

I'd be worried if the media department were pulling the trading strings...stupid comment

Damn, maybe they are thinking of leaving?

Wouldn't blame them

Or should they be filed out to the press in Casey jerseys?

If we could develop players like other teams...then this is where they'd start

maybe as a group at the end of proceedings? like a team thingy? just an open thought.

That would be good

Well if your that desperate go photoshop yourself.. having a sulk over the club not photo shopping players in their rightful colours? Wowee I can see Roos bursting into Melbourne headquarters ranting and raving because our media team haven't photo shopped our new blokes.....

Who's sulking?

I gave you a very reasonable explanation in reference to marketing and membership, if you can't see that then it's not my problem.

I hate that guy with a passion any time he can think of a way to attack us he does, we would be in the top 3 for trade period, he is just an utter and complete idiot, tbh i like Caroline Wilson more than that dick.

So much star gazing.

Take St Kilda for instance - by all reports they have traded really well - what will people say in 12 months time if McEvoy tears it up at Hawthorn and Del Santo at the Roos and the boys they have traded in deliver bagels ?

I will give a report card in a minimum of 12 months time. Anything before that is pure guesswork.

Yet he is happy with Sydney paying $3000 a day for Buddy on a 9 year deal.

I think he needs to clean his glasses!

''What gives Melbourne fc....get some pics of our new players up on the website....''

You mentioned nothing about memberships and Marketing. Your complaining about our players not in their polo's because all the other clubs are doing it with Photoshop.. Just because they are not in their tops doesn't mean our Memberships will crumble and no one will sign up. Wait till pre season start then you might see them in singlet's.

Until then worry about what's more important for this club and that's winning games.

Agree...the only thing about Barrett is he seems well connected, other than that he's a tool.

Varcoe has a bit of value...the other players were only traded on good will.

Never said it was a disaster...but if you can't see that there's a marketing chance being missed and that many people love the trade period then it must just be me.

Bingo, we just disagree. I reckon the number of people who we've missed as members of the MFC because we haven't put some photoshopped pics up on the MFC website could be counted on the proverbial fingers of a mutilated hand.

I presume you agree with me that a well-staffed and functioning footy department is more important than a well-staffed web management team.

I don't think we disagree, because it's getting off topic in. This was never a comparison of which department is higher priority.

And for what it's worth I agree that the footy department is more important that a few pics on the website.

Ok good. Lets get back on topic.

Ok pick 9 my prefrence in order:

Dunstan

Sheed

Freeman.

We added 4 midfielders that at their best walk into our midfield, we had a need and we adressed this. We should start to see a competitive midfield next year. Our backs and forwards will be happy

Plus we have pick 9 for another young midfielder.

The big interest for me is pick 2 in the PSD - hoping for a midfielder of some substance not to renew his contract.

For those with time - a list of good midfielders from other clubs who has yet to sign would be helpful !

A D huh? Leaving aside the hate for Barrett what do people think a realistic assessment might be?

Hard of course but because it is hard to assess it without knowing who we get at 9 and even then we won't know for some time how good a player he is/will be.

Also i suppose you have to take into account the opportunity cost of not having pick 2, which would be hard to define given it would not be clear who we would have taken with number 2. Its not out of the realms of possibility we will get the same player.

Again leaving aside the hate for Barrett it is hard to fathom how he could be so critical of that element of our trading (getting Tyson for our pick 2) given that Tyson was taken number 3 only 2 years ago, and has done ok since and has the benefit of 2 pre season (albeit one being hit by injury). Also we still have a top 10 pick (even though we had to give up pick 20 to get it). We are desperate needs of mids and we need them now so again i don't get the criticism of the deal.

Any whooo. Tyson, Pick 9, Vince and the minch - i give us a cautious B.

Don't really care about his rating as no one would actually recognise him as any sort of expert.

D+ rating from an F- journalist.

Agree...we are lucky to have bergs and generally high quality videos being posted...

but surely we have a photoshop expert amongst the ranks.

Some people (like me) think it looks a bit tacky and would probably say "oh, just wait until they get back from holidays to take real photos. They look better and what sort of person would really care anyway..?"

Plus it could be construed as diluting the strength of the image of the players when they first get the jumper on, which should be soon when they come back from holidays.

At this time of year the club will want to stretch things out to get as much material as possible, since there are no games being played to provide it.

It's just such a petty irrelevant complaint.

Depends on whether we get one of the players we had earmarked at 2 when we use 9. If we do, then Tyson cost us what, pick 20?

Apparently Peter Ryan was defending us quite vigorously, according to afl.com.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
