if savage comes to us it's not to be as a small forward option; it's to be as a pure mid.

other than that, i like yr trade ins, although laidler i'm not sure about.

cover for tall backs. Dunn is current "filler" ... hmmm

Grunt - Sewell, Viney, Jones, Cross, Savage, Frawley, Clisby

Class- Aish, Toumpas, Grimes, Howe AND JESSE HOGAN

No more classy types like Morton. No one will push us aside with Sewell, Viney and Jones in the mix

Sorry, but Grimes is not your class. Just as Savage isn't your grunt, nor is Clisby really.

Aish is AFL class but agree he will need a few pre seasons to be elite. Has all the tools. Reminds me of O'Meara from the suns. When he uses the footy, its all lace out.

He would also need "men" to help me on the park ...N Jones, Sewell, Cross & Jack (no backward steps)Viney etc

call me an optimist... or like all of us MFC diehards, a dreamer of what could be

Pick 2 doesn't get traded? Pffftt.

What's the worst thing that can happen? Boyd or Aish? Not bad.

I am warming to that. Aish is already playing senior footy. Jimmy second year and Viney is a player. Jones and Jones, Trengove. Maybe a Michie and Cross. Blease and a couple more pick ups and maybe a mature VFL player and our side changes. Add a good coach in Roos.

2- James Aish

21- Zac Jones ... call me sentimental. The kid can play.

22- (Sylvia compo) MFC trade to HFC for Savage

38- MFC trade to HFC for Sewell

54- MFC trade to Freo for Viv Michie

+ Hogan (upgrade), Daniel Cross (delist FA), and Jeremy Laidler (delist FA).

Rookies: Clisby (2nd year) Stark (2nd year) + add Chris Michaelides (Sandringham VFL), Mitch Gent (Casey VFL)

That's Aish, Jones, Savage, Sewell, Michie, Cross, Laidler & the wonder child Jesse Hogan.

Terlich, McDonald, Garland

Clisby, Frawley, Grimes

Michie, Viney, Toumpas

Howe, Dawes, Trengove

Savage, Clark, Hogan

Gawn, Sewell, Jones

Jones, Aish, Cross sub.Kent

emerg: Laidler, Blease, the Fitz

No Watts?

Michie is the Gumbleton of the west.

Stricken with injury, can't make it on the park.

Tread carefully.

Btw, how's Mitch Clark travelling? Is he out of rehab?

According to his twitter he has been running for a while now, just came back from holiday and is getting into the swing of things right now.

And we have to take some educated risks with talent. If we can get him for Pick 50 something or PSD2 then the risk is low.

Am I the only one that would prefer someone else to Aish ?

We've been seduced before into thinking we take the "prized one" Its as though we're assembling some collectors idea of a team. I want Bigger harder bodies. Happy enough ( in a fashion ) we have the Toump , but whos really going to argue the benefit a bigger stronger mid such as Wines would have provided. And yet here we are again with a very similar sort of choice. Do we get the silky skilled kid, who's DNA suggests he'll never be a solid sized ( read AFL ) player but a player of elite ability, skills etc etc etc ( where have we seen all this before ?? ) or the slightly more meat and 3 veg guy ( 3-hat variety though ) : still very very very good but not seen as polished ??

The reality is we will probably have a decent pick in next years draft also. Im all for a Freeman type this year and maybe look to the Aish type next year

Won't comment on the kids as I don't get any exposure to their leagues but I will reiterate - it is not a disaster, abject or otherwise, if we don't trade ND2 for a star now.

What we need more than an experienced quality mid right now is good decision making.

If the MFC is more attractive 12 months from now then we can wait and see what players we can attract then.

Nothing may be he best outcome.

Not satisfying, but preferable.

No your not the only one. Ihave been getting howled down for this every time i try and make a point about it. Been saying all along that Aish doesnt fit our needs of solid inside onballers. Im a massive Freeman fan and also Sharenberg. Even Trent Dumont would be smokey aswell.

Aish would be perfect for someone like the Western Bulldogs because he would be the icing on the cake with his outside work because of the number of inside midfielders they already have.

Im so over picking up weak skinny midfielders that get smashed at the stopagges and around the ball. Time to bring some some nuts into our side. Aish is not one of them.

I like that but, I think Melbourne would be crazy to over look Jake Best.

Played every game in the VFL for Casey this year kicked 30+ goals, had more pace than blease and a much better overhead mark, not to mention has a crack. I'd like to see Melbourne pick up Zac Jones, normally the younger brother is better! So watch out!

Well that's the case amongst my family! Haha

Who are our abundance of outside mids? Who says he is outside only? Not saying he is the right choice but getting sick of this "you're either inside or outside" or skinny at 18 means you'll never win a contested ball. Just pick the best rounded mid and back to develop them accordingly.

what you meant to say was.....where is our abundance of mids !!! period !! lol

We have only TWO capable genuine in and under types that will relentlessly get their own ball time after time. Stand up N Jones, you too J Viney. Its a pretty short list and not nearly deep enough.

Aish would be gobbled up at spat out as an AFL level inside mid. He looks to be a very gifted outside running type who links well and thinks on his feet.

All the while we cant GET the bloody ball.

So in what is being stated as a reasonably weak draft where the consistently named most talented mids are Aish, Kelly, Billings you want us to pick someone later just cos? Pick the best rounded if that's Freeman or Crouch great if not go with the skinny kid who will mature into the best balanced mid and develop him properly.

I too, support the anti-skinny kid movement. Enough is enough

And how has our development been going lately BRFE?

And you talk about before with our outside midfielders we have Barry, Evans, Bail, MJones, Blease, Trengove, Toumpas sometimes Howe and maybe Strauss as all outside midfielders that Roos can maybe work with..

We Jones, Viney....Grimes? Mckenzie? ...Magner  as or inside midfielders.. We just lost Sylvia so again its basically Viney and Jones that are pure inside midfielders. Two players!

They need HELP in the middle. Someone to take the stress off these two blokes. Aish will not and never do that.

I’d say developing the skinny kids would be a start.

Those with a line through them are either not up to it, plodders, or in the case of Barry too young and with question marks.

Trengove isn't an outside mid and Roos has already stated that he's going to get him back to hunting the footy in more of an inside role.

We are bereft of quality outside running mids.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
