I have said it before and I say it again, I have a man crush on PJ.

Go get them PJ, may the force (supporters) be with you.

I must have died and gone to heaven as the MFC is usually full of spin and little on actual action.

Bring on the 2016 season, finals footy here we come.

Theres an article on MFC.com.au. Apparenlty Jackson says its less about performance and more about reducing costs, ie. the position was a waste of money

Not true, we'll have another 'list manager' soon enough. They just won't necessarily have the same title... Harrington was a battler.

He then does his son's contract?

And now we are in Conflict of Interest territory...

I was wondering what was going to happen to Viney and Harrington.

Harrington won't see a hefty pay out as he was not on a big contract.

I don't know what we are going to do with Todd.

Interim FD Head - Mahoney

Interim Head Coach - Craig

Head Recruiter - Taylor

????? - Viney

Maybe List Manager and Recruitment Strategy? And he recuses himself form negotiating Jack's contract?

I hope this doesn't 'end in tears' so to speak.

Don't forget 3 years each to Jamar and McKenzie also and 2 years to Dunn. Probably more but can't think of them off the top of my head.

I've always been doubtful that Harrington is responsible for decisions like that. I can't see how anyone other than the coach can be responsible for the "who" side of the list. I though Harrington would be more about the "how" side.

To that end, I don't know what this actually means. From the quotes from Jackson ("reflective of costs") it sounds as if it will be replaced with a less senior role; List Analyst or somethingnlike that.

I interpreted it as simply removing a wage from the FD. Viney can do it, whether he should do it is another question, but as you say, a List Manager does not decide the 'who' or even the 'how long' but the mechanics and negotiation of the deal.

Frankly, I see List Management as something that should be an aspect of another role - you don't need someone dedicated to it.

Agreed, and that sounds like what is happening here.

We wont have another GM of list managment! Jackson saw the role of GM for List Management as an overhead we dont need to pay. Rather than have a bevy of GM's for each teir in the FD we will have the GMFO (currently Mahoney as interim), who will oversee all teirs.

The old org structure was too top heavy.

This needs to be a genuine redundancy otherwise the club would be risking an unfair dismissal case. This just seems to be apart of the football department restructure that we've been told about since Jackson took over. I'm not all that unhappy with Harrington's work, particularly the last two years, and even some of the late picks prior to that. Overall he has had more successful picks then duds. Think Howe, McDonald, Taggert, Clisby, M Jones, Terlich, Toumpas, Hogan, Viney, Barry.

Jackson has made it sound like we've made him redundant because we're making the position redundant.

This makes sense. No one on here seems to adequately know what a 'List Manager' is. Does he do recruiting? Well, maybe, but Viney and Taylor do that too. Does he manage contract extensions? Well again, maybe, but Neeld clearly had a say in those decisions. Does he decide who we bring in from other clubs? Again, that's a role split between various people.

Seems like Harrington's job was, to be blunt, redundant.

The work Jackson is doing is amazingly efficient.

Harrington won't see a hefty pay out as he was not on a big contract.

According to the article 'he was on staff rather than a long-term contract, so the decision will not force the club into another costly exit after the $600,000 Neeld payout.'

Again, I don't think you understand the role that Harrington played. He was the bloke who negotiated the contracts and also the one that did this 'frontloading' of contracts to meet the minimum. The Coach and the recruiter chose the players, and they advised the length of the contract.

Those contracts have nothing on the Pedersen one, at least they've all showed something at some point.

Soz what I meant was we will have someone doing that job, even if it is incorporated into a different role and with a very different name. We will need to have someone managing the list and contracts.

As most of us clearly don't know exactly what our List Manager's job description was , we should be careful in criticising. We have someone on here who knows better than most what that was and if he chooses to post we might all have a better understanding of the role. I understand if he chooses not to.

For what it is worth I am sorry for Tim that he now needs to find another job and from the little I know, I think he was pretty good at his job. Hopefully he will find another soon.

We need to remember that for every person that leaves our club or any club for that matter, they have concerns for their family and themselves as to their futures. It is understandable why delisted footballers, can develop depression etc as a result of suddnely being unemployed, as with other members of the community in the same position.

We and I include myself, can be a bit glib over simply getting rid of someone, but there is always a human side to the issue.

As far as the List Manager position at the MFC goes, I anticipate PJ sees it being merged with another role.

I hope PJ is as good as some here seem to believe.

It's not that I doubt him but I don't get the man love.

What I see going on is partly the standard political act of declaring yourself to be in receipt of a very difficult legacy.

If he is Jim Cardwell Mark Two, I'll be happy, but I see some of the knee jerk praise here as just the bloodlust of embittered supporters who wanted heads to roll.

You mightnt get a lot of empathy but I certainly understand your sentiment.

Jacksons doing a job. If it were a garden , hes weeding it. and while he there hes turning over the sod ( or sods  ) and sowing a few seeds for the future.

In some ways hes thhe right bloke as he can be relatively dispassionate about it., and youd have to be.

I dont think though that he had to declare it ( as a mess ) as we all knew it, just not the extent.

At the core of this decision and many of the others PJ will make (and may have already that we do not know about) is the importance of streamlining process.

People with an understanding of waste in business process will see that this is not just a cost cutting exercise, nor is it an individual performance related issue but moreover a decision to make the clubs operations more efficient in order to make better decisions in the future and eliminate the 'basket-case' tag once and for all.

For me it's now becoming painfully obvious just how much extra baggage and unnecessary personnel we've been carrying over the years under the previous CEO.

Jackson is doing beautifully right now by both trying to mitigate the financial loss of contract terminations via the removal of excess salary roles and at the same time trimming the club of too much process. Also, let's remember the new level of accountability this will bring to the roles of the people who deserve to remain at the club.

The MFC was too fat up top, it is obvious when 4 people in the same area are reporting to a CEO.

PJ has been given a mandate from HQ to streamline the whole club.

Good. Keep going. TH was surplus to needs. I wish him good luck.

4 down...who's next?

Feel for the guy when you read things like: "Harrington will be the fall guy for many of last year's controversial recruits, including David Rodan, Shannon Byrnes and Tom Gillies, although he was overruled on some of those by then coach Mark Neeld."

Also, find it hard to believe Jason Taylor is "under pressure", hasn't even had a chance to show what he can do yet. Although, it could just be because Todd did such a good job with last years draft I guess.

"The fall guy"? Neeld has already gone because of it FFS. If the list is [censored], the list manager goes.

Today on Finey's morning show (KB on hols) Tony Sheahan said that the MFC and Port are in a race to sign Mathew Drane as GMFO.

    BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin
