Since these precious players have to buy into the coach and his way of thinking and the direction he wants to go and since we saw the results of the last non-buy in, shouldn't the players have some say in appointing the next coach?

I'm being a little facetious but it still irks me that it's possible that our players have had a hand in the down fall of two coaches. It stands to reason that they should pick the next to avoid an unlucky third man down.

I guess what I am getting at is that regardless of who is selected as coach the players must buy in. Otherwise, those who don't buy in should be shown the door. Time to put up or shut up.

For trengove own playing future he should resign as captain I never thought it a good idea in the first place, but grimmest has played well as captain

They have not earned the right to have a say in anything except do what the coach and the club asked them to do and pays them to do. The fact that they are paid as a group the same as Geelong and Hawthorn really p@s$&s me off. What a bunch of prima donnas.

I think it's pretty clear that one of the major cultural issues that the club has suffered since Bailey, and probably even before, is that the players have had too much say in how the club is run.

They should just concentrate on learning to play football, and leave everything else to those employed by the club to do their jobs.

NO!!

The players had a MASSIVE say in our two captains, which has turned out a failure.

I hate it when Matthew Lloyd is right.

Hey don't hang it all on the players :) The coaches and some" admin staff" were also giving their evaluations on those 10 behaviours.

In the spirit of facetiousness... unless there is a twenty year old out there who scores highly on our 10 behaviours and is willing to coach our club I would have to say no to this proposal. Not that I really have a vote but hypothetically like.

Did they not have a say with the last coach?

It was clear to me they did not support him by the way their played as a group.

The players are a big cause of the problem,

Many have spat the dummy. Many don't try hard enough, many are playing form themselves and not their teamates.

More rockets to come for these boys. They don't realise that an AFL career is fleeting. Some like MJones or Magner do because they have had to scrap to get there. But Sylvia? Easy street since he was 12yo.

I think the original premise is flawed: Bailey was, from all reports, liked by the players and the senior group wanted Schwab gone.

Second point - Sydney players wanted Roos, not Wallace (foot urban legend...maybe myth). They got what they wanted and it worked alright for them.

Third, players have to have a coach who makes them feel like they have a future rather than that they are f__k ups from the start. If that means we select a coach with that dynamic in mind, then that is fine. It is not the players selecting the coach but the player's needs are foremost in mind.

I would say we don't want someone who is antagonistic for antagonistic's sake but we do need someone who can get the best out of our list. The next coach needs to work with them and not against them. One of the things that Dermott Brereton said that was correct was that you have to get blokes to come along with you. You can't beat them into submission. On the other end, we don't want another Bailey situation where the players are calling the shots.

I would imagine if SOME of the current MFC players had a say then we would have a coach with a soft [censored] approach whom allows the players to do their own thing, play where they wish, not have to perform on match day unless they feel like it, gain selection automatically simply because they played some good games with another club prior to joining MFC, get the sulks if other members of the team are not playing as well as they expect them to, instead of having a fair dinkum crack themselves and set an example to others..etc., etc., This is a part of the culture we have witnessed over the past few years and I am sure we are turning the corner off field which will in turn eventually create better performances on field... We can only hope.. :( The coach is the Manager and the players are the general employees. If the employees do not like the Company Policies and do not wish, for some reason, to abide by those policies then looking for another job is the alternative... ^_^

Who selects there boss??

These players are being well paid to play AFL.

I really wish we could use an incentive clause in each contract for at least the next 2 years.

Would set a higher standard immediately.

Let's see how fast Trengove can really run...

great post

its hard to believe that as a performance based game our list is equal in payment to other lists

definitely an inbalance of payment, whilst I enjoy and promote the club at every chance, I cannot understand the payment scheme that's been allowed by this admin,

at our local club we don't pay for below average, or else were out of business

why aren't clubs in our position paying wage for experience and performance

its a natural thing to do in any modern run company

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
