Sociopaths are significantly more charismatic than Neeld. They think long and hard about how others will see what they're doing, and modify their behaviour so as to go unnoticed / get what they want. In this respect, they're a lot like the rest of us.

We may all look back at what a awful coach Neeld was, who looked completely out of his depth. But his appointment was a just reflection of our poor governance at the time.

The appointment of Roos, fortunately, seems to indicate the complete opposite.

MN was appointed to stop soft players getting away with bludging at training and other areas of club life

he was appointed by a board that had no idea how to change the culture of this group

Strangely enough, whilst I think that description might match many people in the world of football and even posters on this site, I'm not sure that it does match Mark Neeld. I think he was more a case of someone who was promoted as being a potential AFL coach but when the crunch came, he was simply out of his depth. Likewise Bailey. Neale Daniher could definitely coach in his day but stayed on for too long.

In truth, apart from the early days of Daniher and the Northey era, we haven't had more than a half decent coach for close to 50 years.

I agree with you Rog. I get the feeling Neeld took his honesty levels up100 notches and took his brief too far at the MFC. He was given advise and went too far with it.

But the Pie players loved him. Which says a bit about the MFC

You can be a really good assistant who the players respect and a horrendous senior coach who the players loathe.
