Young talent: do NOT trade pick #2

Recommended Posts

Likely we will have pick #2 in 2013 draft.

Whilst our player development is poor, I think we again need one of the best young mids coming through.

If you get a chance, get to watch some of Dominic Sheed (WA under 18s) against Tassie. He gets it in contests, runs, creates, takes players on, thumping left footer, and well built. Some has compared to Simon Black, but I think he is more like those type Swans mids.

A must GET. A leader. Ready to go round 1 2014.

footnote: pick #20 ish - Nathan Freeman (Sandringham), will be around this draft pick and is ready to go, tough, a leader and local kid.

Just wanted to REINFORCE the credentials of Dominic Sheed, captain of the WA under 18's.

Todays game vs. Vic Country, Sheed has 30 possessions again, 4 goals. BOG by a mile. Solid build , long kick, run, creates, takes on the game... is a STAR

We wont trade pick 2, as we will have a proper coach, a new head of football, the FD department will be restructured and everything will be in order..

The number 1 focus will be on player development.

But we are Melbourne! its our way to do things differently.

See how well its worked for us over the last 50 years!

All the what ifs about Clark are neglecting the image of our pathetic midfield. It is a bare cupboard, not a cupboard full but with a few question marks.

Either simply pick mid(s) in the top 5 or trade down and try to grab someone on the way down.

This is not a Richmond - Tambling scenario. They did not have a Hogan coming through. They did not have a 25 year old bullocking workhorse at FF and an 25 year old athletic CHF (who does have a ? on his foot admittedly).

Unfortunately for him, he also broke his collar bone. Out for 6-8.

doesn't matter who we take the dees will take a potential star in the making then reduce him to a no body and yet the swans seem to do the opposite.......is that culture?

PAST culture , I hope.. Let's leave the negatives where they belong... In the past...

Tough call that, his skills are sublime, he is the most elite kick of any first year player this year - by a space.

But he is a bit soft, but that is nearly understandable.

I wasn't a Toumpas fan, but I'd be leaning on keeping him, his skills are very good and he should be a player down the track.

Plus, he has media appeal, being Greek, he is an extremely likable kid and we need players that can get supporters on board.

Not sure any of the 2013 draft have the appeal of the Toump.

Andrew D likes him ? "Being Greek" ?? Not saying for one minute he wont make it but are we really needing to recruit players because of Culture, media appeal, being an extremely likeable kid and that can get supporters on board... I would rather have players who can play the game at the elite level are dedicated, capable of turning/winning games and maybe have NO media appeal.. Club culture change ??:)

He would fit in well at MFC... Long term injury list... We need a few more like that ... (sarcastic)

Mark Neeld wanted Watts traded for North Melbournes second round draft pick which then would have went to the saints for Farren Ray. All the Melbourne Recruiters and list managers were gobsmacked at Neelds request and every single one of them went against him believing Watts is worth a first round top 10 draft pick.

True fact..

There has been comments in the press saying that Viney and Neeld were arguing over last year's draft. Do you know what that was about.

Why is it likely? Do you think GWS is more likely to finish last than Melbourne?

A mate of mine was talking to one of younger up and coming players and he said that everyone is wrapped MN is gone. Said there's a real buzz around the place since he's left. Also mentioned don't stress re players not signing, will be done shortly.

That is good to hear, I think the stress of playing for a coach under fire alone - would be enough to get players down.

I would trade pick 2 for an established mid in a heart beat. Someone like Danger or Shuey. But those players will never be offered up so it's a non issue

SHEED is not worth pick 2, DUNSTAN is easily superior and if we want to make these ridiculous player comparisons I would say DUNSTAN plays like Mark RICCIUTO.

Sheed looked good the other day so looking forward to checking out Dunstan.

Team of the future:

FB McDonald, Frawley, ???

HB Terlich, Garland, Grimes

C Toumpas, N Jones, Viney

HF Dawes, Howe, ???

FF Watts, Clark, Hogan

Foll: Gawn, Trengove, ???

Subs: Fitzpatrick, Kent, ???

Possible young talent: Barry, Blease, Evans, Clisby, Spencer, Strauss, Tapscott, Nicholson (tagger)

Plenty of stocks of big men and young talent that may or may not come through.

What we really need is a genuine established midfield gun aged ~ 24-27 thats ready to go and who will provide leadership in the midfield.

I'd be happy to trade IF a suitable player is there to grab

With Sheed out 6-8 he'll be off the table. He'll drop to 7-10 now. Dunstan or Kelly it will look like so far.

No, I don't think he will drop. The talent scouts will already have enough info to make a decision on him now, he may drop one or two places but a lot will depend on how the others around him perform, if they have some massive games.

Only the bad recruiters wouldn't have seen enough to make a call. Remember that Selwood bloke who didn't play much in his under 18 year!

Everybody is saying that with the win over the Ndoggies we have blown all chances of a PP. Why? Has the criteria changed that much; it used to be that if you had under five wins for two consecutive years you were a Monty?

...and suddenly our list is looking alright, in a better position than the Doggies and the Saints. Last week we had the worst list in living memory, go figure. Funny thing about the media is they don't have any memory.

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    POSTGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

Once again inaccuracy and inefficiency going inside 50 rears it's ugly head as the Demons suffered their second loss on the trot and their fourth loss in five games as they go down to the Pies by 38 points on Kings Birthday at the MCG.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.
