One of our greats

Fantastic for Hassa, his family and the club to join the AFL hall of fame. Congratulations.

Watching the clip on the afl website and hearing the way he spoke about playing for the MFC gave me half a mongrel

What a legend

"The embarrassing thing about it is I'm still a member of the last Melbourne premiership side, in 1964," Mann said.

Yep you are right.

Imagine if he came down to the rooms after training this week and spoke about his successes. I could also see him going up to Watts and telling him to do something.

Great news for Hassa and his family.

Spoke to Hassa when he was President on the phone for over an hour.

He was happy to take the call. Top Bloke.

My first jumper was 29

Wish i still had it.

Have always loved Hassa. If you respect this great player his comment in today's HUN is poignant:

"I am terribly disappointed where the Club is today. I believe it comes down to poor recruiting"

I remember John Northey saying the same thing in the HUN a few years back. It has always stuck in my memory.

I thought he was CEO for a while but not President. But still great that he took the time to speak to you.

On a slightly tangential point, I've always liked players who have real nicknames (Flash, Russian and Hassa, for example) rather than derivatives of their surnames (eg, Greeny, Browny, etc). I grew up in the 60s and it took many years until I found out what his real name is.

Yep, along with my name-sake, Hassa was one of my all-time favourites when I was a kid. There was just something special about the guy. Couldn't put my finger on it as to what, but the feeling continues to this day.

Very deserving of this latest accolade. Congratulations, Hassa!

You are right. My mistake CEO was Hassa. I can't even remember the exact reason i rang him..probably similar reasons to today!!!

But i was stoked that he took my questions very seriously.

You mean you didn't get to wear it during the Juice era?

Hahaha no.

I actually made the 9 into a 6 to become the number of Greg Parke. Great Mark ordinary kick!

I remember Hassa being interviewed on World of Sport when he came down from Merbein. He was a real country boy but he not only made an impact early in his football career, played in a few premierships and captained the side but also rose to important positions in industry. A well deserved award for a brilliant footballer and a great and loyal Demon.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
