Correct. His attack on the ball, man and contest is appalling. In saying this there will be a coach that would think they can make him a star. I would be trading him for the best mid we can get.

Got to agree, so many good signs yet so many freaking brain fades. For all that called rodan a spud today, 24 disposals 11 tackles. Yeah he missed a bloody sitter goal, but 11 tackles and 24 touches are a pretty decent return.

Still wanna know what went on with watts at half time.

I don't care how many possessions Rodan got today he was so bad in the first half he should never play another game for Melbourne, he can take Pederson and Fitzpatrick with him.

What Rodan did with his possessions is the issue, how many times he put another player in trouble, fumbled, or just ran over the ball was a joke, he is way past it.

Rodan was quite good - he won more of the contested ball than any of his team mates. Sadly for Nathan Jones, what he has in spirit, lacks in genuine speed and class.

Absent from today's 'team' - Rodan, MacDonald, McKenzie, Fitzpatrick, Dunn, Bail, Tapscott, Jamar, Pedersen. In other words, the under-performing duds.

Obviously we're not going to have Clark or Grimes for a lot of 2013, nor Hogan at all, but give the majority of this team as much game time as possible, and ignore the duds, and maybe we'll get somewhere in 2014.

Sick of having to find positives in 10 goal plus losses, but I actually did have a few. At times I did like our style of play, many a time we stuffed up with skill or decision errors but I didn't mind some of what we were trying to do. A few players showed a bit. Unfortunately still down by 90 odd points.

That's all we have been doing all season Stafford that is finding positives in an ars# kicking.

This has to stop and will when we start winning.

Today again just highlighted our need to find a midfield. Our defensive 6 is potentially elite, a forward line with Clark, Dawes, Hogan and Howe will trump pretty much all. Its about building a midfield to support each end.

Neeld lost the players early, but Harrington and Prendergast set him up to fail.

I don't know how it is so hard to find mids with:

Pace

Size/strength

Foot skills

Endurance

Aggression

But none of Trengove, McKenzie, Evans, M Jones, and Rodan are the answer in the modern game.

Evans has all of that. He's a well rounded players who just needs time. The problem is more that we invested top draw picks in Maric, Blease, Strauss, Tapscott, Gysberts, Bennell - even if those guys made it to their full potential they aren't well rounded midfielders.

I noticed we played through the corridor more and this is why at times we looked alright. That's why I don't understand why Neeld didn't just stick with the game plan but tinker it a bit. I thought Rodan was quite good. helped Jonesy out a fair bit and took the game on. Kent looked really good and has a big body. Fitzy was good aswell, and leave him in the side for next 5 weeks like they did with Gawn and see what he has. Add Sylvia, Viney, Grimes, Clark, Magner in today and I reckoned results would have been a lot different

Our tackles were reasonably high and a few ferocious ones but couldn't count the number of times I screamed when they missed a tackle. I reckon it would have been approaching 100.

I think what today showed is that despite effort, it means nothing if you dont have class.

Its been well documented about our midfield and thank god we have Nathan Jones or it would be worse.

Me too, and some of the big bodies like Tapscott let tackles slip. It's all about commitment to the tackle and most are not committed.

Magner for one. Probably Couch if he was eligible.

As for impact, Rodan had more impact for Hawthorn than he did for us, he was a good player some years ago but he sure isn't now.

I hope Rodan never plays for us again.

One of the reasons we are such a [censored] side is we play guys like Fitzy, Rodan, Pederson and it hurts me to say it Jordie; none of them are up to AFL standard but we are happy when they put in a less than ordinary performance for us. It shows just how bad we are.
