The players must take some responsibility for manning up, punching from behind, blocking, tackling, kicking straight, kicking to a moving target, shepherding.

Geelong have got oodles of it, but they've also got a leader on every line.

Let's get more games in the three Jacks, JV, M Jones, Terlich, Dawes, Gawn, Evans, Strauss, Sellar, Howe, etc and allow the landscape to unfold then.

Jumbo, the development of the players is at the heart of the matter here. If their actions on the field are a by product of how they train and are 'taught' by Neeld then we have a problem.

Best to move him on now before the group you've outlined above are also affected.

Whether you like the man or not - you cant really dispute his intelligence. He hasnt coached for a couple of years. I would suggest he is intelligent enough to alter his style and gameplan to what suits a list needs.

Your suggesting he will come in do the same same as he did in Sydney - Whilst he would focus on defensive structures as all coaches do I think he would have evolved.

Spot on Nutbean. Of course he'd adapt. He is a winner and he used a game plan at the Swans that maximized his teams chances of winning a flag. If he coached now and that game plan was not going to win a flag he'd adapt it (whislt imagine still keeping the emphasis on hard nosed defense and non negotiables such as accountability). No one is accusing Freo of being overly dour this year as Lyon has apated his game plan from the flooding model he used at the Saints

This situation reminds me of Malthouse and Carlton last season. Malthouse denied interest and denied contact and discussions with Carlton, but never absolutely closed the door on the possibility. Just like Roos has done. It is now common knowledge in the football community that Malthouse agreed to terms with Carlton around mid-season while Ratten was still coach. All at Melbourne have their fingers crossed that one way or anther Roos takes up the challenge and saves our club.

It means absolutely nothing that Roos denies or semi denies. Roos and the MFC must deny such contact as Melbourne currently has a coach in contract until the end of 2014. All parties simply have no choice but to deny.

This situation reminds me of Malthouse and Carlton last season. Malthouse denied interest and denied contact and discussions with Carlton, but never absolutely closed the door on the possibility. People forget under Northey we often kicked low scores & hung on to win close.

It was stressful to watch but it was a huge buzz when that siren blew.

Northey was not a boring coach, he led a tough battle.

If he is a lier,then he only reclining. If he's a liar, then that is a different thing altogether. That said and has already been mentioned, while Neeld is still in the chair or any other incumbent in 2013 for that matter, both the AFL and Paul Roos cannot say, yes, Roos is up for the job.

In any event, I believe the chances of Roos coaching in 2014 are extremely thin.

The other thing people forget is that the Freo Steves (Harris & Rosich) had already pretty much stiched up Lyon for 2013. I'd assume these were talks held without Lyon's management's knowledge as well. There's an interview with one of the Steves where this is mentioned but franky I don't care enough to be arsed looking for it. It was the end of 2011 when they were so dissatisfied with Havey that they decided to try to reel in Lyon a year early.

Agreed Hardtack, but the two scenarios in question are somewhat different. For a start, Fremantle were not a basket case of the time. Similar to when John Northey left Richmond and took the Brisbane job.
