Must get a legit crumbing forward this free agency period

Like everyone, I am salivating at the prospect of a Hogan-Clark-Dawes forward line in 2014, with Max Gawn and Howe rotating through.

To say this would be a hard matchup for the opposition would be the understatement of the century. In fact Its fair to say it will be by far the most dangerous forward line in the whole league.

However to maximize this, we need to find a great crumbing forward to put next to these weapons.

Who do you guys think we should go after in the trade/free agency period?

We also need Frawley Watts and Garland wanting to play for the MFC....

We need all our listed players hungry for the contest....however we will potentially have the best forward combination in decades.

But long term we do next to find a young quick crumber in the next draft.

Whilst I believe the crumbing forward is a need worth addressing, as I stated in another thread, I think Hogan, Clark and Dawes are mobile enough for the moment. We have more pressing needs. Address the midfield first. Get that right and then we can look to fill the crumbing forward role and the other position I believe is lacking; the small, zippy defender.

The MFC plays the game to win Grand Finals, not simply participate in them. Although it must be said, I'd taking mere participation at this point. I think the combination of Clark, Dawes and Hogan could be as good as, if not better than, what the '98 forwardline would have been, had the Ox not done his knee.

You could well be right, RGRS, but my impression of Barry is that he'll play the flanks offensively and defensively. Of course, I could be wrong.

Either way, I've said midfielders seem to be hard to draft, small forward is one position we've had some talented players in. I wouldn't be utilising free agency cash to lure a small forward unless we were certain of being unable to attract a decent FA mid. I'd prefer to go the rookie draft or pre season draft.

We just have the out of form one.

But he might come good, he's a smart footballer and hasn't been played as a crumber the past few years.

How about we draft one. Any considered that remarkable idea. To be honest crumbing forwards are overrated these days. With the way footy is played you either have zero players in the forward line and everyone running back or everyone in the forward line and need bad defense to actually crumb a goal. I like to get a decent crumber to take over from Davey and force our other small forwards to compete for the role but it's very low down my list.

None of Bail, Byrnes, Blease or Tapscott are pure crumbers but they can all contribute and can put on forward pressure and rotate to the midfield.

Oh and what I've seen of Barry is that he'll be more a wingman than a small forward.

I'm led to believe Barry has a touch of "Veal Deal" , about him, a complete shock to many, I think Milney is on the outer and would be right in Neelds frame, since Rodan is getting on in years.
