Tapscott courage

Thought it was worth mentioning tapscott effort on the weekend backing back with players bearing down, got crunched, got up and shanked his kick. But very nice to see this commitment a super courageous player loved seeing we need more of that.

no doubt shanked it because of the hit.

Not just the toughness but the aggression also (from Nev too) was awesome to see. It's been far too long since we've had a player who really loves to get in everyone's grill and when he is the size of Tappy it's even better.

At one point in the 4th quarter he just kept attacking - was the only one, surrounded by GWS players but he just kept throwing himself at them. Would have made 4 tackles in as many seconds - that was one of the highlights of the game for me. We need more players to do the second, third and even fourth efforts.

Anyone else see that - for some reason the commentators missed it?

Yes, that hit must have knocked all memory of the earlier shot at goal he had shanked out of his mind, so he was unable to draw on that to make the appropriate adjustments ;-)

But in all seriousness, yes it was a gutsy effort.

He is a tough bugger il give him that. But i would like for him to start to take notice of Jarrod Blair and Paul Chapman and see how they go about there business as that half forward crumbing role. He has the talent to match it with these guys and i believe Neeld should give him 5 minute burst in the middle to build himself up to play a more midfield role aswell. His kicking and aggression would be a weapon in the midfield. But he is showing good signs just needs to build that consistancy.

Another thing too is he is only 21 years old so he is still fairly young. Alot of time on his side.

There were a couple of occasions where he probably didn't even get a stat to his name, but just threw himself in like the Hulk and crashed body after body trying to get to the ball. You can't buy that sort of intensity. I really hope he keeps this up and makes HF his own for the rest of the season.

I agree with you but isn't he being played in the wrong position.?

I remember his first 6 outstanding games deep on the back line. He was terrific at kicking in. I think we can use his driving drop punts better if he is coming straight ahead. With Jetta to miss these 2 weeks lets put Tappy back where he belongs

I'll play devil's advocate - he had 11 disposals and 1 tackle. He shanked his two shots for goal (though granted, one was after a heavy hit from behind).

He simply needs to get more of the ball and become more involved in the game. I love his courage but that won't be enough to build a career upon.

Despite the last quarter avalanche, we finished with fewer possessions. It's not everything but we have a long way to go in terms of winning and keeping the ball.

Tappys getting better...just needs to improve consistency of getting hands on the ball.

Did anyone see him chasing against GWS...I did. He actually has very good pace for a guy with strong shoulders....

Loved his chases on the weekend.

I like Tapscott and he should be a very good player as he has a lot of positive attributes, but there has always been something missing.

He has no lateral movement, almost none at all. Great in a straight line but he makes Matthew Bate's turning circle look like that of Cyril Rioli.

Again, I like him but it is a massive limitation.

Many commentators say the only player to improve under Neeld's coaching is Howe. Utter nonsense.

Tapscott is also loving the Neeld regime, and is quickly emerging as a starting 22 player. He can mark and kick and has a serious aggressive streak. His skills are questionable at times, but if can get 10 games in a row without injury we will then see him step into form, fitness and self-belief.

And keep him at half-forward. One of his attributes is forward pressure keeping the ball inside 50.

Yup for sure, he ain't on his own there either. In saying that his effort to contest allows us to stay in the contest and at least be fighting for the ball. He does need more of it and most of our fwds are not great kicks for goal but something to build on and get better with with a positive rather than a negative.

Yeah he shanked a couple in front of goal, but the heap that he kicked for Casey a couple of weeks ago shows that he hasn't forgotten how to put it through the big sticks. Tappy remains an important player in the future for all the reasons stated, but most of all, he is a real competitor.

Would anyone be able to tell me why that website says I'm outside of the Australian/New Zealand area and therefore cannot watch it? I'm far from beyond the borders of Victoria..

"he makes Matthew Bate's turning circle look like that of Cyril Rioli."

I can't agree with this opinion. Bate's circle was reminiscent of the Queen Mary 2 turning. I think he has more lateral movement than Bate did.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
