I hate to admit it but the weight of numbers (experts) are saying the same thing, that Melbourne will finish last. I like all of you are hoping they are way off but at the end of the day I think we will all have to consider the fact that they are right and we may be disappointed once again.

Luke Darcy hands down...just listen to the carp he is talking tonight, he really has no idea. Taylor not much better, thank god Ling is there.

Did anyone else hear on tonights commentary, halfway through the second quarter I think it was, Taylor mentioned the Tigers had kicked the last 8 goals of the game. Darcy the dimwit then proclaimed 'the Blues havent kicked a goal this quarter yet!'. Err no Luke, they hadn't.

Yeah Darcy is captain obvious delivered very poorly that it makes you want to drill your own brain out.

Makes me want to drill his brain ... oops, nothing to drill

Yeah, I like Derm. Unlike most "experts", this guy actually knows what he's talking about.

And yes, he's arrogant, but he knows that, and is prepared to take the [censored] out of himself, which I find refreshing.

People read into NAB cup form too much. We won't finish last, I guarantee it.

It was more of a commentary for people who werent watching the show.

Has port warranted their favorite tag for this weekend after their past 3 seasons?

Probably not. I think the game is close betting wise, but the media certainly seem to be favouring Port.

I put it down to the midfields. They like Jones, but they see no budding superstar in our midfield. You look at Richmond and they have Cotchin, Deledio and Martin. One is a border-line superstar (will be soon if not already) and the other two are match winners. Port have Boak, Ebert, Hartlett, Wingard and everyone's flavour of the month Ollie Wines. They see an emerging midfield, but they don't with Melbourne. Not for a while yet, anyway.

Paul Roos is the worst football person on TV.

I would have to say David King is an even bigger [censored]. So cant stand this tool Edited by Srjennings

It really is a Melbourne cup field to choose from. For mine the Black Caviar of the field is Luke Darcy. When combined with Taylor the result are truly horrendous. This from Darcy last night with 10 seconds to go and the toigs taking a set shot at goal and 4 points in front. "He needs to kick this one straight". Umm no he doesn't the games already won. Taylor is a genuine nuffty but at times can be funny. As for Dermie, I don't think even Dermie takes Dermie seriously.

Much harder to come up with the name of a commentator who DOES demand a little respect!

In that regard, for me, Gerard Whately stands head and shoulders above the rest. Knowledgeable, pleasant to listen to and, when he's calling a game, actually tells you what's going on (which is a novelty for radio commentators these days!).

As for the rest...? All pretty hopeless, really! (Mores the pity Clinton Grybas left us too soon!)

dermot is not the worst i dont mind his special comments

Taylor is a boofhead with absolutley nothing to add and then there is Dwayne.God help us if this lot are the best we have to comment on the great game

Mark Mclure is a deadest [censored]! everyone already knows my hatred toards him but his smug look makes you want to knock the block out of him!

I think the trouble with commentators these day is that they all try to be funny and take the p!ss out of each other....Listening to Brian Taylor last night was horrible.....He was having a go at Richo whilst the play was going down to the Rich end........Did not call the footy and missed some brilliant play by the Tiges.......They are paid to CALL the game.......Not try to be amusing......Sandy Roberts was the best....made it exciting and you actually knew where the footy was .....

I enjoy listening to Bruce McAvaney and Denis Commetti.I can take or leave the rest of them though.

Im watching league teams on fox footy atm and this guys attitude and general persona is just ridiculous.

He is a smug [censored] who loves to also sink the boots into the dees, has picked us for the wooden spoon.

Pointless thread I know but does anyone agree or am I just taking his attitude the wrong way?

I know what you mean. I did a bit of work experience and Channel 9 once and spent a few days talking to him.

A [censored], but a really nice guy. I rate him.

I really don't understand the hatred towards Dermott. I've met him and he's just a likeable character (admittedly on the turps but I'm sure I'd have liked him if I was sober..)

His comments are often considered and insightful. He's someone worth listening to, which you can't say for a significant portion of those in the media.

As for his spoon prediction...yeah? And?

Posted

Having met Derm on a number of occasions I quite like him but he is still a kid (the kid) and I don't take him too seriously. I remember running into him at the airport one Sunday morning before he was flying out to do special comments when 9 were doing to footy and I asked him which game he was covering and he said "I don't know". His preparation is legendary, what more proof did I need than that.

...but Darcy as I've said before is far and away the biggest [censored] on TV, radio or anywhere that he sprouts his vacuous sentences. Maybe they could use him as a host, he has a good head for the tele, and then he could pass it to the grown ups for the real stuff.

Dermot's biggest problem is that he is pretentious. He is basically a bogan who is desperate to sound intellectual about football, but in trying to inflate the language of the game, he uses words which he has no idea about, as well as words which have not yet been invented.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
