Problem is we would have to be limited in the number of players going into a season with virtually no match practice at all. I can't see more than a couple who could go into the team for round 1 with such a low base of match practice.

If all the players mentioned are playing in the VFL this week then our injury list is looking very very healthy :)

Melbourne injury list

Rohan Bail (concussion) 2 weeks

Max Gawn (hamstring) 2 - 3 weeks

Sam Blease (ankle) test

Chris Dawes (hamstring) test

Tom McDonald (ankle) test

Mitch Clark (foot) available

Jack Trengove (foot) available

Jack Viney (neck) available

Leaves only Bail and Gawn.

Considering the tremendous gulf between our good players and our depth players, any match-fitness related reasons for not playing our returning injured surely pale in comparison to the benefits of playing them.

I understand that Gawn was due to come off the LTIL if not already off. This healthy list would then preclude Magner from being promoted or in contention for round one (as many demonlanders would like)!

We're now starting to see why every club, with the possible exception of Collingwood, would want Dave Misson.

Dave had a great year last year also. While we had a horrid run with injuries, a very large percentage were contact injuries and not soft tissue. He is doing a great job.

I'm in Melbourne this weekend and have a few questions ...

I'm staying in the city. Is there public transport out to Casey?

How far is it to drive from the city (average times)?

And I'm from the country so don't laugh but are we allowed out on the ground at the breaks to kick the footy?

Cheers

Josh, there is public transport - Cranbourne train catch from Southern Cross or Flinders Street stations. When you get to Cranbourne station you will have to get a taxi.

Alternatively, hire a car and take the drive out along South Eastern Freeway following the signs to Cranbourne (set the GPS for Casey Stadium). If you go through Cranbourne city centre take a left hand turn at the major intersection where the Race Course is. The stadium is about 5-10 minutes down the road on the right hand side. Dont get confused with a sporting complex on the left hand side. Look for the lights inside a giant carpark.

From the city it should take about 40minutes. Yes on normal Casey games you are allowed out on the ground to listen to the Coach's address. There isnt much in the way of "undercover seating" so either be early or be prepared to sit on the grassy knolls! Can't tell you what time but if you go to the MFC site or ring the Club on 96521111 and they can confirm for you. Hope this helps. Enjoy.

^ Yeah thanks very much that's perfect. Game starts at 2 and the seconds are playing as well they must be about 11 o'clock sounds like a good day if I can convince the missus to let me go. She is worried I'll get too excited and get drunk...

She knows me well

Any chance it's on tv?

I know it's mentioned elsewhere, but where's Ro Bail at?

Thoughts?

Time for a helmet?

Sorry, I hope I haven't changed the thread....

Dave Misson said he was another2 weeks away but that he should rejoining general training soon.Sounds like a very very conservative approach.

Definitely very conservative when you consider this article which appeared on the MFC site on 20 February:-

Bail out after knocks

The article said Bail was already three weeks into an extended (six week) lay-off from contact work.

By that reckoning, he was due back in full training around about a week ago but, given the nature of the injury, the club's policy appears quite sound.

Misson has done well.

This is the best start to a year I can remember.

Sorry to be a pain again but does anyone know the address of the ground or something near it for my GPS

Josh it is called Casey Fields. Presume you have the OK to go. You honestly cannot miss it if you continue through Cranbourne shopping centre and turn left at the main lights. Turn right and you will end up at the racecourse! Turn left and stay on main road and about 5min down that road you will go past the Cranbourne Sporting Complex on the left and just to the right in the distance you will see the light towers. Turn right at the lights. They are currently working on the area so lights may not be working. It is surrounded by new houses going up (more members). Enjoy yourself with all the other demon tragics trudging out to see our hero, Mitch.

Think I will go out for a look as well. Followed Oakleigh in the VFA as a kid and still have a hate for Port Melbourne.

Thanks mate yeah got the ok to go. Really excited to go and see a few of the boys in a bit more of a relaxed environment. Is this the kind of place to get a few signatures?

There may well be some notable AFL names running out on Saturday at Casey Fields but they will be led out by Evan Panozza who holds the reins as Scorpions' skipper in his own right after his 2012 co-captain Kyle Matthews stood down to concentrate on getting 100% right after his well documented injury problems. Good luck to both of them! Panozza the leader

I liked to know KC's opinion and a bit off topic but I've found from the inner city it's quicker to get to Casey Fields by continuing on the monash then heading up Clyde road. You get the added benefit of skipping Cranbourne.

Also the council must invest in at least a back exit from the fields into Clyde road and if possible a third exit as well. They should do it now before the whole joint is surrounding in housing estates. A couple of roads out will make the whole journey for experiences like the NAB cup much more tolerable. And considering how much they've pumped into the joint you wouldn't think building a quick little road out the back would be too much to ask.

Coming from South East suburbs I have tried both roads and found that straight through Cranbourne is quicker. Doesn't matter how you get there just be there and support the boys. The players really do notice the support.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
