Ironically, your post (and Ben-Hur's) highlight the TRUE nature of MFC supporters as a collective. We always argue amongst ourselves, put our club and players down, berate our admin for us not being a powerhouse, and just generally kick anything red and blue rather than show ANY type of unity. That's why we're weak as a club. It's not Cam Schwab's fault. It's not Dean Bailey's fault. It's not Jack Watts' fault. It's the way we focus our angst on each other, rather than use it to unite us against our actual enemies.

Ironically, I wasn't arguing with anyone, I was agreeing with someone.

I've rarely had a go at the whole club or admin, probably only that [censored] Paul Gardiner who I never liked. I realise it's a tough formula to get right at the top to deliver the ultimate success, and I don't enough about what goes on to often comment on it, I usually stick to what I know, and that's on field.

I hope my post didn't show angst towards the club or supporters, there's no angst here, I accepted what we're like a long time ago. Maybe that makes me soft. At least posts like BH's make us have a look at ourselves.

But enough about me, as a collective, I don't know, you may be right, I hear sweet FA from our supporters to know what we think of each other. Only what goes on on here, and I won't deny the people that post here frequently are passionate. It's the majority that don't post here, that pick and choose when to go to the games and if they'll bother making any noise or finding out what the new kid's name is. I have no idea what they are thinking/feeling. I know exactly what a crowd of Richmond or Essondon fans are thinking.

Haven't met too many who didn't think Gardiner was a [censored]... Maybe that's what can unite us?! :)

Of the few MFC supporters I've ever met, not many have had much idea about footy, and it's usually an awkward, passionless convo about their favourite players, I usually lose interest pretty quickly.

When fellow supporters strike up a convo on the train, it always just seems to me like a casual interest, nothing worth hearing or interesting, nothing at all like some of the good posts/posters on here.

So in my experience I completely agree with what B-H has said.

The softness is also right. Just look at the reactions to some of the mild, honest criticisms on here. Go back and look for anyone calling Bennell or Morton soft, the reactions to those comments, which are true, just shows how many Demons supporters will put up with and even defend any garbage that is repeatedly displayed on the field.

At the games we're the most quiet, reserved crowd you ever see. The rare times when we have been unusually loud and rowdy, it stood out like dogs balls and I wondered why it wasn't like that at every game.

unfair dismissal there mate. Anyone who even goes to a game automatically has a certain degree of passion.. what do you call a freezing sunday evening watching us get pumped week after week.. and its not cheap either. clearly there are thousands who use this forum, which is in itself an indicator of sincere interest. BTW I know maybe a dozen Melbourne supporters and they are all pretty fair dinkum.

I couldn't disagree more. You have to be extremely passionate to barrack for MFC, otherwise why wouldn't you have changed sides years ago and jumped off the rabble that is our beloved Demons.

My only love, sprung from my only hate...so to speak.

Some footy fans just aren't into it as much as most demonlanders are. I travel a bit with work and meet many types of supporters. I've meet the ones who know nothing but still support the club to the ones who know what side of the bed Nathan Jones sleeps on. Each to their own. As long as the casual fan can become a casual member I don't give a toss what their knowledge or attitude is towards the MFC.

That's the most ridiculous post I've ever read. The good games I go to the 15,000 demon supporters easily make as much noise and show their passion and footy smarts compared to the 25,000 opposition fans. You should sit near me. We have a great laugh and thoroughly enjoy the good times, few and far between that they are.

If Mitch plays Round 1, Port are in for a hiding.

He makes EVERY player walk 10 feet taller.

Really? is that why we won 2 games last year with him playing?

We're slightly better this year, but most of the players last year we're already starting from 6 feet under, so adding 10 only makes them 4 foot...

On topic, it's great to hear that Mitch is playing this weekend. His Lisfranc can be a career killer, so he's now in the clear. For those of you worried about repeat injury, Lisfranc dislocations don't recur with any greater incidence in previous sufferers. I expect to see him round 1. Good work to Mark Blackney his surgeon, and the rehab team.....particularly the physios. I might be biased, haha.

Yes, I was about to say that it was because we were still trying to climb out of the hole we had dug ourselves over the previous few seasons.

So out of interest, what is the career killing factor if not recurrence? I got the impression they were being so careful to prevent it happening again.

Good news that it is now completely behind him!

The last couple of years and 2008-09 overall have been a hell of a time for all supporters. So we haven't had much to yell and cheer about. It's mostly been frustrating times and comfortable (and more than comfortable) losses. I'm guessing if you're a Richmond and/or Essendon supporter you've had a fair bit to be passionate about in terms of improvement and many competitive games of football.

I think the passion is still there, it just needs to be unearthed thanks to some good footy.

His point is still valid, too much egotistical off-topic dross to wade through to get at the on-topic insightful pearls...

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
