Why would you bother tagging him now?

Threw the toys out of the pram a couple of years ago. Other clubs have a serious laugh at our club. First MacDonald, then Bruce,, then Green, then Davey then Moloney. Why would you want to win a B&amp?!

Because its an easy way to nullify him. The issue is not with those that have won a B&f. Its the efforts or lack thereof around them thats the issue.

Davey was tagged when he was the only player in our midfield seen as damaging, if he is fit in 2013, and they still tag him, the positive is that it frees up our other midfielders, but the negative is that it will be a sign that our midfield also hasn't improved and they are not damaging enough.

He has been a key in the midfield for at least 3 years. He is easily needled in a game and whenever he has a hard tag he struggles.

I would be seriously worried if he is a key part of our midfield plans. If he is going to make it at MFC its as a small FP.

If he was not contracted in 2013 he would be gone.

Anything we get from him in 2013 should be considered a bonus. I wont hold my breathe on him.

Davey cannot go down back in 2013. His great asset was run-down tackles from behind and he no longer has the pace for this. Small and mid sized forwards will now run off him and he does nor have the physical presence to hustle and bustle and bother other forwards. Kicking skills alone are not enough to win a place in the backline.

Keep him in the forward pocket where he can run in short burts and use his excellent kicking.

Even though at his best he is one of our classiest players, if Tapscott, Strauss and others develop thier kicking Davey may not be able to win a place in the starting 22 due to this skill.

If, and it is a big if, he gets through a Neeld/Misson preseason fit,healthy and with his head in the right place he could be a great addition to the team. He may pick up a yard and his kicking skills are still sublime

I see Tappy as a classic HFF who needs to develop his defensive game. He creeps on players and he can really bump well and fairly.

I tend to agree re the 'classic' model HFF - HFFs need to be able to take a run in the midfield, and apply defensive pressure, which Tappy does but Aaron hasn't been able to do for a few seasons for various reasons. Gone are the days of the 'opportunist HFF' such as Barry Vagg or Geoff Tunbridge, and more is the pity as we were regularly playing finals, GFs, and winning flags back then.

Going on everybody's assumption that in season 2012 his body was shot and he is finished so you would assume this is as bad as it gets for Aaron Davey.

Some stats I found: In 2012 Aaron Davey averaged 4.6 tackles per game (his highest ever), 3rd most at the club, a figure that would of had him 5th highest at the premiers Sydney (as well as quite a bit of bench time).

The flavour of the month, Lewis Jetta, averaged 2.8.

Apparently, he used to be a good player, so the fact his average of 0.9 goals per game is his best since 2007, aswell as the 4th highest in 2012 at the club, must mean there is some life left in him.

So we have a small forward, in a team that got pumped, dealing with a stress fracture in the foot, injured knee and coming off a stressful preseason in which the coach admitted they rushed him back too early, getting little game time to settle in, and managed to be a leader at the club in tackles and goals.

He will continue to be an elite kick, good leader and offer guidance to our youth,apply defensive pressure and kick goals. And all this while injured last year.

I'm sure this will get smashed but just hoping he can prove everyone wrong.

He was ranked 29th in the team on average per game dream team points

Averaged 10.5 disposals a game (which may include kickouts)

had about a 75% ED... which isnt too bad

I don't agree with this, Martin, Gysberts and Morton were all on contracts and we couldn't move them on quick enough.

The FD obviously think he is more value than a lot of people posting on here.

I think they should play him in the back line like in 2011, his our only player who can kick to a target when under presher.

Other then his kicking, his basically done.

His not quick enough anymore to catch a player with the ball.

We were provided with some interesting statistics and a fresh perspective on Davey's career.

I doubt that any of those three would have been on anywhere near the same $$$$$$ as Davey.

We could have offered to pay some of his final year contract as an incentive to trade, as happened with Morton. But of course Morts was not on big coin. My guess is that either he's so shot that no other clubs wanted to go near him, or the FD still see something worth keeping. The training reports on here say that he is well behind in terms of fitness, but that his kicking and decision making are looking very good. We are all speculating about the actual condition of his legs. Anyone know with certainty what the prognosis is here? Surely we would have heard that he was on the trade table if that was the case last month. Neeld has shown he is prepared to get rid of those who will not add something to the list, regardless of reputation or draft pick. I cannot understand why he would keep Davey and not try and trade him, retire him or come to a financial understanding to free up a spot on the list if he did not think he would overcome his troubles. Yes, he has a big family to look after, but why spend a year in the VFL further ruining your body when you could work out a financial settlement, retire with dignity and free up a pick in the PSD or rookie draft. He himself came through the rookie system, so he would understand it's value to a young AFL hopeful.

Don't hate the player because he was in the right place at the right time. Who else were we meant to pay in order to get to the minimum 92% of the salary cap (or whatever it is).

Although he is apparantley looking awful on the track, lets take the positive out of it that he is at least training and building a base. The more he trains the fitter he gets and the higher the chance is that he snags a game.
