Feel very sorry for Liam, his life is unravelling.

One interesting admission from his Lawyer, that his drinking started late last year. That would be after the time he left us. It gives lie, to the statement that he began drinking while a Melbourne player. Just another Melbourne bashing media mistruth that has been put to bed.

Problem is the media have moved on an there's nobody to issue an apology for the slur and nobody cares anyway.

It is such a shame that that wonderful talent is going to waste, and that he has lost the opportunity to get himself and his family out of what is clearly a toxic situation. Although I would love for the 'old' Liam Jurrah to be playing for us again, I would be happy to see him play for ANY team, just so that the wonderful talent we enjoyed so much was being used.

I think it's interesting that Jurrah's sitting in jail waiting for his next trial, as - if I remember correctly - he didn't even apply for bail, decided instead to remain in custody.

Did he think his bid for bail would be unsuccessful? Or did he make a conscious decision to stay behind bars, away from trouble?

Whatever the case, it's hard to believe that someone who seemed set for stardom has fallen so far.

But also shows what an achievement it was to get where he did, albeit for a comparatively short time.

Tragic, though perhaps the greater tragedy is the number of Liam Jurrah's out there who we'll never even know about - except as unfortunate statistics.

Update on the assault charges. Pleased guilty, and will be in jail till the end of July, but some interesting/positive news in there in regards to his community in Yuendumu, as well as steps he seems to be taking to overcome his various issues. Hope he gets to the other side of all this, and finds some peace (at least).

Whats with all the sympathy for this guy??? I understand the whole innocent till proven guilty feelings from the earlier court case but the guy has just been convicted of hitting a WOMAN in the face. He is a criminal and should be doing every bit of that time. So sick of the bleeding hearts in this country. You want to stay out of jail?.... well then DONT assault people. pretty bloody easy.

Rather than bundle him as just another indigenous, why not judge him as an individual? A guy that bashed a woman? If he were white you'd have condemned him.

Yes, I understand your point, but you don't have to walk in someone's shoes to pass judgement on him. Regardless of his upbringing, culture, the pressure on him and provocation, his behaviour simply can't be excused.

I met his family on his debut at the G, and he held out a beacon of hope for a pretty hopeless community. He wasn't up to it, unfortunately.
