Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Two years ago he had legs like tree trunks they have slimmed him right down trying to create speed his best assist is strong hands out in front of his face hope Dawes can stick his hands out like that he needs to learn how to that's for sure

Pretty disheartening to think he's in for another tough year considering the undoubted disappointment of his 2012. Fortunately with the injection of the likes of Viney, Toumpas and M Jones and their ability to clear the ball, there will be less of a hole that he is leaving. The defensive side to his game with which he compensated last season may prove even more important this year, but how I'd love too see him get another yard or so of pace back. It really was like watching slow motion at times.

A bit of Trengove overkill in today's edition of the newspaper that sponsors the club:-

Leading the way to regain x factor

Tanking not an issue for focused Trengove

Trengove pushing to join the game's elite

Much better than the usual carp they publish about us.

"Jack Trengove who burst onto the scene in 2010 and averaged 19 disposals in a manner that began to justify the club's decision to use its now-controversial priority pick to secure him."

If they can't even get the basic facts right, how am I supposed to believe them when it comes to bigger issues?

What is wrong with the statement that they highlighted in bold? It is a statment of fact!

Good article in the Hun IMO.

Pick 1, used on Scully, was the priority pick.

And it was in The Age.

And so far, whilst they said some will connect Trengove to tanking, and weigh his potential against any penalty, Murnane is the first to do so.

Under the cowardly and mischievous guise of "others will compare..." as he introduces the very concept himself.

It is semantics suggesting Scully was the priority pick when it was virtually the toss of a coin at one stage between the two. If we didn't receive a priority pick in 2009 then we still would of picked up Scully with our first pick (making Trengove effectively the 'priority pick').

No, it's about doing research and fact checking.

Clearly, at this stage.

Trengove will be the second most talked about player this season after Watts. He absolutely must become an A-grade midfielder if we are to become a power.

He may well spend the first part of the season over the fence with us RR.

He has a serious injury, will have a poor pre season and should not be rushed back.

Not a great way to achieve "A-grade midfielder" status.

I don't expect much for at least the first half of 2013.

That's unknown. If we defeated Richmond they would have finished last and had first pick and we would have had second pick. It's unknown whether Richmond would have selected Scully, Trengove or Martin at pick one and therefore whether Scully or Trengove would have been taken by us at pick two. As Jose and Clint point out - what is known is that Scully was the priority pick - not Trengove. The priority pick went to GWS and we got 2012 pick 4 and 14 in compensation - that's what has to be weighed up in the "tanking" debate - not Trengove.

correct, although the term "priority [censored]" would be more apt

Every Tiger fan I know had their eye on Scully (who was a 'mad' Tiger fan) They did not necessarily want to win that game in '09 and it could be argued that Richmond were playing 'ducks and drakes'. Richmond lost their last 4 games that year - 3 of them to teams outside the 8.

We win that game and they possibly would have landed Scully. Martin was an afterthought in many ways. Reckon they are still a bit dirty on us and partly explains why their fans are the strongest in pointing the finger at us (re the tanking).

I know a few that are convinced that Scully will end up in Richmond colours.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him end up at Richmond. I doubt Phil's grand plan involves him spending the rest of his career in Western Sydney. Take the money and run.

Yep, money talks P_Man. Esp 2 mil in your 1st year. Not bad coin for an unproven player. Who knows where he'll end up? Frankly, who cares?

We, in many ways, were probably always going to get and keep our man - Trengove.

However, stress fractures in a foot is a debilitating injury and it's doubtful we'll see his best footy this year. Pre-season largely missed and all. 2014 and onwards is where the expectations should be re JT. The injury can't be played down. He may still get quite a lot of game time once he starts playing.

I did this exercise a little while ago out of curiosity and I know the line about stats and damned lies and that these stats aren't even all that comprehensive but in 2012:-

Jack Trengove 199 kicks 190 handballs 389 disposals 88 marks 99 tackles 8 goals 8 behinds (22 games) 8th best & fairest

Tom Scully 177 kicks 209 handballs 386 disposals 51 marks 85 tackles 4 goals 4 behinds (19 games) 4th best & fairest

Coincidentally, the stats are not dissimilar; Trengove's extra 3 games could be balanced by the fact that he had less time on the ball than Scully as he played a fair bit at half forward. We know that Jack is a stronger mark.

While most of us are disappointed with Jack's efforts in 2012 and expect a lot more from him in the future, the million dollar man has been lauded for his efforts, lifted a notch in his club's leadership group and is compared by his coach with James Hird for his leadership qualities.

I think we're being more realistic in our assessment of his past season.

Naturally, we have to remain cautious about how Jack's season will pan out given his early injury setback and the disruption to his pre season but it's not the end of the world. Hopefully, we'll get 18 good quality games from him and Mitch Clark in a much improved 2013.

The Scully stats only confirm the gossip: that Scully's position in their B&F was artificially inflated.

Not concerned about Jack. Elite athlete, gifted and gutsy footballer, has his head screwed on: it will come. The injuries in the last pre-season and this are only delaying the inevitable.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
