Who will be in the new Leadership group

Barney Rubble

The Top End Trip is all about Team leadership and Team Bonding.

The players have been issued with a criteria for voting on the 2013 Leadership Group.

It sounds like all positions are up for grabs.

Personally I think it will be very similar, obviously Bartram is gone.

I think we lack leadership in the back six. I cannot see any of the obvious back line players having leadership status at the moment.

Midfield has 2 obvious choices Jones & Grimes and maybe Howe if he plays that role.

The Forward line has Clark, Dawes and maybe throw in Byrnes.

What do you think?

I assume the Co-Captains are slightly off limits.

It will be interesting.

Assuming we'll go with 8 members (as we did in 2012), I'd say the following are a lock: Grimes, Trengove, Jones, Clark.

That leaves 4 spots up for grabs.

The top candidates for those 4 spots would have to be: Rodan, Byrnes, Dawes, Jamar, Frawley, Garland (the last 3 partly because they were in the leadership group last year). 3 smokeys I'd consider including are: Howe, McDonald, Watts, McKenzie

My prediction:

Grimes & Trengove (Captains)

Jones

Clark

Dawes

Frawley (the back-line needs a member)

Rodan

Byrnes

Garland/Frawley are part of the group this year, I can't see why he wouldn't again be a part next year...

Jordie Mac could get into the group as well. (Replacing Barty)

Other than that I don't reckon we would have too many changes given the age of the group.

Dunno if Byrnes and Rodan will get a spot, they bring experience and can help educate, but not sure if they need to be defined as leaders officially.

I think Howe could get a guernsey. He appears to be a standout in the training reports..

Frawley is a cert and Neeld loves Garland so my guess is they stay.

Jones is a lock in as are Grims and Trenners.

Clarke and Dawes might be the next ones..

Pretty sure Clark was in the leadership group 2012.....Might be wrong there....

I'd like to think so.

But you never can gauge what is on their minds until it happens.

The playing list has gone through massive changes in the past 12 months.

The Top End Training has encompassed a lot of exercises that bring out the leadership aspects of people.

The forthcoming 35K hike through Kakadu should put up a few more names for consideration.

I believe there will be changes, but who they are will be interesting.

I reckon Dawes is a lock. He has leadership aspirations and I expect, qualities which Neeldy demands.

I doubt there will be any additions.

Or omissions.

No problem with those mentioned so far but I would like to see Watts name there.

Grimes/Trengove - Captains

Jones

Clark

Dawes

Jamar

Garland

Frawley

Sylvia

That's my pick, and yes you read correctly, Sylvia. I think it's time something clicked with him and even though it's a gamble somewhat, being part of the leadership group might just be the thing he needs to really switch on. I think Byrnes and Rodan will do a lot of teaching and leading but not necessarily with official titles. Howe and Tommy Mc on the cusp.

I think the only addition will be Dawes.

You're idea about Col is great but there is no chance IMO he will get a guernsey.

Yeah I hear ya mate, it's just the only thing I can think of that might get him into gear. Plus, would be good to have a "cowboy" (as Kevin Sheedy calls them) in the group.

Fair call.

But it feels like a double down: if it works well then it will be the push he needs, if it fails he might repeat beamer in 2013.

Anyone reckon this could work for Davey?

You don't put blokes in the leadership group in the hope that they will pull their finger out.

Yeah, get what you're saying, that's why I said it's a bit of a gamble, but I just think with the pressure of "make or break" we may just score a genuine superstar. Sure it could backfire, but Col has coasted for long enough.

I still consider Davey a leader amongst the boys, especially when you see how much they respect and listen to him, but just hard to know how he'll go with form and his leg injury that will determine how many games he plays.

Careful I suggested that in another thread on the topic and had NoMoreMrNiceGuy or whatever the hell his name was come after me with pitchfork in hand.

Personally I think it would, yes. But leadership titles need to be earned in a variety of ways and whether he's shown enough on the track during the pre-season, compared to others, is a big IF. Same could be said for Col.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
