We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Getting Smashed on Trade Radio

We've lost a couple of slow old guys, a couple of softies and one seemingly soft of the mind.

We've gained a couple of quick old guys, young KPF's = structure. + Viney and Barry.

I give it an A. I don't care what we gave up to get what we want, we got what we needed.

Scattergun? At least it's not Barry the sniper Prendagast picking off his own men.

The list needed to be shaken up, the culture needs changing, the club and Neeld have started it, I believe it'll work.

I agree Deestroy all

In 2012 we were not competitive.

Can it possibly make us worse

I seriously doubt it.

As always Time will tell.

These knobs don't realize that our trade week can't be judged until the players we have picked up are actually doing their thing. That is, when Dawes is having a 30 goal season, Pedersen playing his role and Cale and Gys not being able to crack a game for their respective sides.

Barrett is a poor mans Hutchy.

We have secured 3 Top 5 talents this off-season.

Grading is hard to do without the passage of time but the first line in this post will only be matched by GWS and Wallace gave them an A...

But we already had picks 3 & 4, and we were never going to have our hand forced on Viney, so we're resting our hat on securing 3 top 5 picks (Viney debatable)? Is that such an extraordinary achievement from where we were in the draft order? I'm not questioning the choices, but I think this is blowing the trumpet a little hard.

30 wins. 120 losses OldDee, and people still want to complain about change. Human nature to fear the unknown and cling to what you know (however sheisen) I guess.

They give it a C on paper, but let's be honest the only good player we lost from 2012 was rivers.

The rest didn't do much to deserve respect.

A for aggression

B- for results

Neeld wanted change, now its up to him to make it happen.

88 for Morton, which we paid for rodan

Gysberts trade seems poor at first look.

Good to see us heading in a clear direction.

I did laugh when Cameron Luke asked Damian Barrett what Melbourne should have done differently and all he came back with was "set more realistic expectations".

He is pathetic

I was happy with our performance until today. Giving up Gysberts and especially Morton for SFA is disappointing. I am confident both will perform better under the right development framework. I am also concerned Neeld is not prepared to invest any time to develop kids properly. Mature players from good cultures is a sensible strategy but too many mid-age NQRs will not a flag team make.

The real truth to this potential blunder will come during next season. IMO Wallace is just about spot on with a "C" yep we have drafted talent with our very high draft picks 3, 13 and 27 for hogan, viney and Barry (and Dawes) but hogan we have to wait. Viney will be a good player possibly great. Barry anyone's guess. But too loose Maloney, rivers, Gysberts and Morton for pick 49, 88 byrnes and pederson appears IMO to be a horrible result for MFC

I don't rate pederson whatsoever

Byrnes 1 - 2 years yeah cool....

Pick 49 lotto, 88 won't be used.

Moloney I understand both parties views but it's a real shame player and coach couldn't work together

Rivers just don't get why we let him go

Morton is a frustrating player think he has talent and showed signs will be good for west coast hope he kills it.

Gysberts big mistake from MFC I'm certain he will be a very good player.

I agree with everything you have said. Undone much of our good work over the past 24 hours with nothing much left from a drafting perspective. We have paid overs for every trade, and why we let Rivers walk is mystifying - better than Pederson will ever be. Rapt with Viney and Hogan (and hopeffuly they don't stuff up pick 4 ) - the rest reak of short term decisions for mine

They also said we would have been better off keeping pick 3 for Toumpas and use pick 4 on Wines and 13 for next best available and 26 on Viney.

Trouble is we would've had to spend pick 3 on Viney.

Barrett is a news getter more interested in the politics of the game, knows nothing about football like his mates Hutchy and Caro.

to make this an acceptable trade period we need to get Jacobs in the PSD.

Jacobs or Toy or another class player that may fall through. This looks to be the strategy with clearing more space on the list most notably Martin, Gysberts and Morton all contracted players who Neeld didn't want. The only way was to trade them out for late picks.

We expected to land a key forward.

We accidentally landed 2.

Our expectations were unrealistic.

3.... but yeah thats it,

Wallace thinks we should have recruited 8 mids so we were never going to please him....but Viney and a pick 4 should deliver quite alot imo

It's about cleaning out players who aren't part of neeld's plan.

Moloney - was and remains a flat track bully. name me one game when the chips were down when he stood up. The Huff was all puff

Rivers - I was a fan but I don't think we'll miss him. The top teams have big forwards and he wasn't a big backman.

Morton and gysberts - Personally I don't give a shti how they go at there next clubs, it's irrelevant. Neeld wants hard bodies with good disposal. Neither have it so why the hell would we keep them. it's easy to say someone will become a good player at their new club but don't forget how pathetic they were trying to play hard, contested football,

I'd rate our draft period a B-

I wonder who will remind them of this comment when Hogan and Dawes start crashing packs.

Don't forget that this club can no longer afford to be shti. Look at Sydney as an example. Falling to the bottom was never a good idea.

Their take in the future will be that it was a punt that payed off. Yet now, according to Barrett it is a disastrous trade period.

Loved it when Wallace put it on Barrett to what is his "bee in his bonnet" about Melbourne. Barrett said that he would be staggered if Melbourne sat down before the trade period and planned to pick up the likes of Pederson, Rodan, Byrnes, Dawes.

Wallace replied, "Well, Damo I know for a fact and it had been mentioned weeks ago that they were seeking Byrnes, Pederson."

Damo: "Well, then ok...but, but Dawes and Rodan.."

Jerk.

Well Barrett was certainly trying to tear us a new one on the way out of trade radio. He just frustrates me so much, overstating the past, understating what has been done to fit his constant media narrative. It's typical "scattergun" journalism that he loves to produce week in week out, all headlines, all shocks, no substance. When it comes down to the nuts and bolts of his argument or someone says, what would you do in the same situation, he has this mentality of basically saying "hang on, i'm not done criticising yet".

Always looking for that big story, never actually finding it and making a mountain out of a mole hill.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
