WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DAVID RODAN

Demon Head

When you compare what we have done over the past 5 years, this is way better than some other decisions we have made.

No matter what we do, it's a step in the right direction, because its almost impossible to take a step in the wrong direction from here.

Good move.

If he brings a degree of intensity and enthusiasm into training, around the middle and around the club, snags a few goals from the feet of our forwards, mentors our young midfielders and provides competition for a spot in the 22 then I'm happy, Welcome David, best of luck and give em hell!

This guy was going to be delisted by one of the worst teams in the league. He couldn't even get a game with them. He's old and he's past his prime, thanks to a terrible run with injuries. Pick 88 could have been used to upgrade Nicholson or Evans. What a waste.

Pick 100 whatever it is can be used for this?

YEEEEWWW!! The might D rod! stoked for this pick up not only is same heritage as me but he will bring terrific leadership and will set the tone at training, as he was one of the hardest and most dedicated trainers at port.

Will bring much needed pace zip and grunt plus a bit of x factor too.

Couldn't be worse than our last over the hill port pickup. Strange that we get rid of moloney only to bring in another forward running midfielder

Yes but the difference will be that this one will hopefully put his head down, have a dip and not spit the dummy when things don't go his way.

At least rodan will side step around any would be tacklers.... As opposed to Putin the ball under one arm and trying to break every tackle ever!

That's right, I'd forgotten you hated Watts AND Moloney Range Rover. Thanks for the reminder.

Make some more delistings & trades. One spot on the list for Rodan isn't a massive deal when you consider how many other spots are being taken up by spuds.

My comment is purely directed at your carefree approach to a position on our list, not the merits of Rodan.

What small forwards?

He will play.

I guess we don't have many but I can't see a spot for all of blease, Byrnes, davey, tapscott, rodan, bail, Bennell, jetta. I guess I didn't put much thought into my post, but rather I can't see him regularly slotting into our midfield ahead of anyone so it's just a deep forward role for him, but I think he is brought across more as a leader to show the boys how to train.

I wouldn't expect more than 10-14 games off him.

This is a good move. I like it. Can't see any negatives in this trade. When he's on, Rodan has undoubted x-factor. We need a bit of that.

My approach to the list is directly related to the amount of low quality players on it. The club could get rid of around 16 players if you include rookies & it would make no difference to our performance next year by losing those players. Hardly carefree, I just don't rate the list. Any inclusion of any sort of quality I welcome. Hope this clears things up for you.

Prior to this trade/draft period I wanted at least a dozen list changes, so I suspect we're in agreement in that regard.

But it doesn't diminish the value I put on a place on our list. I value it highly.

I reckon he is the perfect sub .

Using pick 88 on Rodan has no impact whatsoever on whether we upgrade Nicholson or Evans. We still have 2 picks AFTER that available.

Some people have no [censored] clue how the rookie upgrades work...

I see this differently to many. A fit Rodan is exactly what our midfield needs.

Could he be our most influential recruit for 2013? Maybe..

We are good family friends with alipate carlile and i spoke to him last week when he was in wang and i asked about rodan. Said he is one of the most dedicated and professional player at the club. Sets the tone at training and especially in the gym as you can tell by the size of his arms! also said that he leadership skills are second to none and will be a massive mentor to our younger group. after hearing this i thought he is on par as one of the best recruits with mitch clark. May not be in game day but his off field work, training, leadership..mentor role. Fits mark neelds calibre of changing our culture and setting the bar skye high!

And after meeting rodan personally after my time spent in SA with Alipate i can tell you he is one of the best bloke you could ever meet. always a smile on his face, takes the time for the fans and loves a good old chat.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
