I had a man crush on Ron Barrassi from an early age and used to sit in my jammies watching the Ron Barrassi footy show on theTV.

I got given for my 5th Birthday a pair of rubber Ron Barrassi footy boots - so freakin uncomfortable and downright dangerous if you walked on concrete in those things (having kick to kick on the road) - it was worse than being on ice skates.

I was 7 when Barrassi went from Melbourne to Carlton. When you are 7 you change your teams like you change your underwear (twice a week). But did I go to Carlton as a package deal with Barrassi in 65' ? ohhhhh no....What the hell is wrong with me - I would have seen multiple premierships, salary rorting of the highest order and become even more arrogant.

I guess its the masochist in me that will have me a Demon until my last breath.

(I love you Ron)

Although a doggies supporter (i have a soft spot for the dogs as a result) my dad's local footy team wore the same strip as the dees. I actually thought he played for them as a little tacka.

I then beat up my younger brother till he supported them.

Now as a dad myself i want to build resilience in my kids - what better way than to make them support the dees!

As my name suggests, I've been around a while. My folks were 'one eyed' Bomber supporters, but when Melbourne beat them in the '48 Grand Final replay, I became a Demon for life. Not sure why really, 'cos I really liked Mum and Dad.

The secret is having a moral and upright lifestyle.

I've got a few years on you BBO and i can concur that staying upright is the no.1 priority. Not sure about that other item though

Inherited direct from the old man...and because I wanted too..Mum is Pies sadly but I forgive her.

I was born in 76....but my real life started in early periods of 86.....then came 87....

The red n blue filled my veins greatly in 87...PURE PURE MADNESS and absolutley exhilarating year for me as a kid.Why follow a crappy magpie or Bulldog ect....I WANTED A DEMON! Clearly the best.

Sean Wight was playing like a superstar taking hangers over guys who kicked our a$$ regularly...Dunstalls/Salmons ect..

The Demons flew into the finals smashing teams...footballs were being booted into the crowd each week.I've which I still have mine with the signatures all over it.

I have been a member for 24 years next year.

We do have a vast range of supporters...not one type like Ess or Coll (Feral).

I think we analyse everthing Demons ever so dilligently because we want success and feel its the only way to vent by criticism sometimes..

Thats why theres many Demon web sites also, alot of passion at this club without doubt.

Raising a few Million at debt demolition in one night is quite unbelievable and clubs like Essendon or North it takes 12 months or more to come near it.

Some people on here want success so badly the criticise and eat our own but they dont mean to upset others....its just there way of wanting success and the wait has become unbearable for alot of people.

Especially those who were old enough in 64 to actually see & remember.Like my Dad who without doubt chose the best team!

36 years for me is killing me waiting for a flag while all others succeed before us...So lunacy is natural to me..

But I will continue to take the pain because we are still the Melbourne Demons! Thats who I want to follow dont care about the media or anyone who tries to put us down.

I think people are also constantly hoping for the next big thing to come to us which is why the drafting/trading becomes so wildly debated on Demonland..

We want that next Carey...we dont want to do a Richmond and pick Tambling over Franklin...We want to be heard by the club so we vent here hoping they will see...and scrutinise the HELL out of all players who want to play for us.

Sometimes they do watch & do listen to us here on land.

Melbourne Tragic yes....Agree totally. LOL.

We havent been no 1 for a long time and we want it badly which drives us to keep the supporters to members % as the best in the AFL.

I will always have faith it will happen.

It's a good thing you're all about the journey.

We all go on a journey, but we process it differently. I could have been driven around by a limousine on that journey, but instead I've been propped up on a jackass.

my father had a bet with my uncle when i was born in 1988 that if norwood redlegs lose to port adelaide at their next match i would be a port adelaide/collingwood supporter. but if norwood won i'd be a redlegs/demons supporter.

norwood lost and he told my uncle to shove it and made me a demons supporter haha.

My dad, and his dad - a familar refrain.

Oh, and if anyone is worrying about their kids jumping to other teams - just know that kids can live without watching a good team, but they can also live without their dad becoming a depressed, obnoxious [censored] when they are watching a bad team.

My Aunty is a Carlton supporter, and to be obnoxious (at 7) I decided to support another team.

At the time, there was a fellow named Jakovich running around in the red and blue...

Dad is Collingwood, mum is essendon so I followed essendon when I was younger, when i got to 12 or so dad said "you dont have to follow essendon just cos mum does" so I swapped to melbourne cos of the colours. I swapped between the 1999/2000 premiership years and we all know what happened in 2000 :( My brother was essendon as well and we he got to 12 or so dad said the same thing to him, he choose to stay a bomber. When my sister got to 12 or so it was "follow collingwood or get out" hahahaha.

We are trying to have kids soon my missus and I. We are both mad melbourne supporters. She wants to make them follow Melbourne, I say free choice...

What do you's think?

There is no choice. My grandson had a Demons jumper within weeks of his birth - the same as my three kids. I don't understand this choice thing. Surely we want the best for our children.

Now Rev you are not on the Hallelujah thread

If that was the case you would encourage them to adopt Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney or dare I say it Collingwood.

You are cursing your Grand children to a life of scorn and depression.

Seriously Crawf I tried all the theories on my Daughter and she left for the Bombers.

Threats meant little to her, she wanted a team of winners. nothing I could do stopped her.

Improvement is the best method of getting supporters be they family or not.

Nothing works like winning games.

They will want to enjoy the footy with you as long as they enjoy going to the footy with you.

Make them Demons.

My kids have always wanted to be just like their Dad. Poor buggers. They're now 32, 30 and 21 - all Melbourne supporters and proud of it (well my daughter's a little ambivalent but more about the game itself than loyalty to the Dees). There's something about the superiority that comes from being able to rise above the scorn. It's good for the soul.

Go Dees!

Posted

My father and grandfather both supported the Dees so it was only natural. I'm 27. I've already got a little scarf for my one year old :). If we don't win a flag soon I'm pretty sure the po-po's will be onto my family for inter-generational child abuse.

My younger brother jumped ship in the 90's to North. Bastard.

Both of my parents were Melbourne supporters. My great uncle Charlie Barnes, played 33 games for the Dees between 1927 -1929 so my grandparents and aunts and uncles were all supporters. Some of my earliest childhood memories were going to watch the Dees on a Saturday and Oakleigh on a Sunday in the VFA. As the years have passed, nearly all of my older relatives have passed away so apart from my elderly mother, I am the only Dee supporter left in my family )-:

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
