Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The current game is Mostly just blancmange.

You get the occasional game thats good but mostly its one dimensional scrapfest.

Not enough long bombs to contests.

Its the running power afforded by the rotations X with sports science thats allowing the coaches to choke up all the vacant spaces.

The coaches themselves, are killing the spectacle, by using the powers they have too defensively.

Its not worth the effort to go to the game anymore.

thats why im all for restricting the rotations. thats whats made the difference. if they were capped or as I suggested, have a minimum time limit that rotated players must stay off the ground, the game would open up much more and much sooner.

Yep, they have to open the game up.

This flooding the space is garbage. The professionalism has it downside, & the extra ground coverage is it for me. And the regularity of the bench interchange.

The upside is the skills improvements.

Not quite what the thread had in mind.

Why not start up another thread.

"What's wrong with the game?"

But you're not far off what the supporters want to see.

Great skills, high marking, big scoring.

Bring on the 70's

Lets not count our chickens :)

I'm mega pumped that it looks like Dawes and Pederson are coming to the MFC. Lets just get the deals across the line :)

I remember a Mitch Clark was definitely going to Fremantle once upon a time.

Difference being that Bulldogs Blues and demons made their pitches and they were considered and he chose demons .

In case of Clarke we came in after freo and changed his mind

Minor sticking points will be pies who will try hard but have a need to trade as they want Young from Hawks and need salary space

Dawes added to the forward line now means Melbourne can go longer into the 50, less backward kicking, more direct play (even if it is along the boundary). The inclusion of so many good players will definitely lift the spirits and the effort from our other players, looking forward to a rebuilt and revitalised Melbourne next year.

Have the Dogs gone off Bate since last year? Hopefully he goes there as a FA, to boost our compo after Rivers leaves.

I get the feeling there are many half baked deals out there just waiting on particular dominos falling, then the rest will. There are clubs like ourselves unsure of what if any compos will arrive. Expect a late flurry of activity as a result.

I hear this. I saw plenty of 70's footy, including our own insipid efforts. Today's footy is just so much better - constant pressure, meaning that tremendous defensive skills are applied to opponents whose skills are light years ahead of the old days. Thugs and cheap shot merchants have been eliminated.

I sat near the fence in the Granny, and was gob-smacked at the physicality of it, and the ability of the players to execute under extreme physical pressure.

And what is it you don't like about Jeremy Howe's repertoire?

Those bemoaning the quality of the current game are probably whining about the lack of good silent movies as well. It can get congested at times hence we're moving to a 2 and 2 interchange. The current game has a far higher skill level, is much more physical and asks much more of players.

Reckon that even if they take him, they'll probably play it smart & only sign him once delisted, to deny us another pick before theirs.

Good point.

Another serious flaw in the FA compensation scheme.

Teams losing a FA they don't want to keep can be denied compensation by the clubs taking the player onto their list.

On second thought, maybe that's not a flaw if the player is truly unwanted...

It's interesting.

If Bate is unwanted by us, we don't deserve compensation, as we'd delist him anyway. Moreover, if we do delist him, they can't just sign him, he has to nominate for the draft, which he may not want to do, and hence would prefer to go via FA. Which should end up benefiting us.

I like FA. More thinking.

Actually, there's a free agency period at the beginning of November for delisted players.

Can you two take the nostalgic whining somewhere else?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
