FAREWELL STEFAN MARTIN - SEPTEMBER 2012

Stefan Martin What would we get? Collingwood for sure. They have to let someone go - Hutchy let it out the bag on footy classified.

Were they three or maybe four unconnected or unrelated sentences?

Martin name keeps popping up?

I'd prefer Martin, over Jamar...... If I had to trade one it would definitely be Jamar.....

Why we sign Jamar to a Three year deal, who knows?

would rather delist spencer, than trade Martin.......we would never get true value, for Martin in a trade.......

I'd want to be a whole lot more certain that Gawn and Fitzpatrick will make the grade and Jamar can prove me wrong and return to some decent form before we trade Martin.

If it is in fact a done deal, then it better be a good one.

Would have to be a good deal, Stef will be by far and away our best ruckman next year.

Jamar will make a perfect back up ruckman aswell.

Hopefully we can get some forward training into both Stef and Jamar,

as they'd be ideal resting forward, especially Jamar if he can get over his fear of kicking the football.

Bailey always thought Stef would've made a good foward.

Is just as valuable to us as he is other teams, I hope he stays- and if he goes I hope we replace him with ruck skill. I could cope with his loss if we could get Grundy.

Maybe we give him to GWS and all they have to do is not say the names Viney or Grundy untill they come up in team selection day for their match with us :)

If they want Martin they may heed a preposterous trade or two.

I think Martin and a 'fringe' player for two modest mids may work

Martin + (Morton or Petterd or Bennell) + a very late pick for 2 of (Wellingham or Blair or Sinclair) + 2nd rounder

you never know....

On here. Hutchy reads itl. Simple

Martin & our 3rd round pick for their 1st round pick.

Both ours and their 2nd round picks will be tied up if father son (Viney & Stewart) so that would be a reasonable deal I reckon given I think Martin's worth a 2nd round pick.

There's not that much on their list that I'm interested in that they'd be willing to let go.

Now we want to get rid of our best ruckman as well? We won't win a game next year (or for about five years) if this continues.
I'll take anything for Martin. Uncoachable.

I don't think you could get two diametrically opposed opinions than these two.

Who's right you ask?

Neither.

Arguments using extremes are rarely right.

Collingwood's first round pick on its own (20-24) is simply not enough for Martin, let alone us throwing in a draft pick. I've posted this in another thread but ruckmen of similar quality to Martin often go between 7-15 if it's a straight swap for a pick. If we are serious about trading him to the Pies, then I think it's much more likely Neeld has his eyes on one of his old players. Collingwood can grow more midfielders, but not ruckmen. He's worth something to them and the return has to be good.

We can't be flippant about losing Martin. Once he's gone we're left with Jamar in the twilight of his career, Gawn coming off his second knee reco in 4 years, Spencil who is not up to it, and less than desirable part timers like Sellar and Fitzy. Or we can rob the forward line of Clark.

Rucks going recently for picks 7-15, Jolly and Jacobs even Maric went closer to 20 all better than Martin. I think Collingwoods first rounder would be more than kind. Although i think when rucking on his own Martin can be very dynamic in the middle. he can get clearances similarly but not as well as NN. Jamar ect cannot do this. Only rucks with Basketballling backgrounds can do this.

IF we were looking at trade options for Stef (which I wouldn't be) I reckon we shouldn't be settling for anything less than a first rounder. Particularly with Collingwoods situation, it's not so much how valuable he is to us but how valuable he is to them and they need another ruckman.

As I said above I wouldn't want us trading him, he'll probably be taking no 1 ruck next year for us as Jamar slows down and we manage him.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
