Smacks of desperation by the Dees. It looks like Pederson was a "must have" no matter what the cost.

Obviously clearing the decks with Morton and Cook.

We now need some run and spread players with hurt factor. Can't see it happening this trade period.

Think of the Pedersen trade this way - we traded a player out that we didn't see as best 22, and I suspect not even close, for a player we expect to be best 22 and play an important structural role.

It's a big win for me.

Out: Moloney, Rivers, Jurrah, Morton, Gysberts

In: Byrnes, Rodan, Pederson, Dawes

Nothing to jump up and down all excited about guys...

Well said, I for one think Gys and Cale had alot of upside and let them both develop a bit more. Cale for pick 88??? We should have kept him. Gys for another "big" forward. I am of the opinion we need ball carriers and speed. Im not sure we have done that. Time will tell

Rivers and Gys are the losses, we got nothing from Morton, Moloney or Jurrah this year.

we fill 2 of our needs small forwards and tall forwards. Add 2 more mids in viney and pick 4 and i think we have the balance right.

You cannot add 3 young mids in one year it will throw the balance out, when you can draft someone just as good as them next draft and spread the load.

Cale and Gysberts must have been rates as the lowest of our prospective mids, especially with Viney and Pick 4 to move into their roles.

We needed to cut some wood somewhere, it is unfortunate, will be very interested to see how both go, Gysberts more than Morton, but both still have "potential"

Pederson seems to be an upgrade of Seller for me, some of the things I've seen of him he appears to have some skill about him and a good mark. Rucking abilities aside, he could be a handy 3rd tall and depending on how mobile he could play as a hit up half forward with Dawes and Clark as deep forwards.

Whatever, welcome to the club Pedro.

I think he moves better and takes more marks than Sellar for starters, i think he is definitely an upgrade on Sellar.

Very misleading.

If Viney and Pick 4 are not included then neither should Moloney, Jurrah, Morton, and Gysberts were out of the 22 by the end of the year if they were in it at all.

How about this - From the Best 22:

Out: Rivers

In: Viney, Wines, Pedersen, Dawes, Byrnes, Rodan

Clarke Dawes Pederson. We now Finally have a forward line that will keep opposition defenders busy. Our crumbers will finally have something to crumb to if only our midfield can get it there

In the space of two years we have gone from effectively no forward line, to having a world class FF, a solid foil in Dawes, a third tall in the Pedo, a future FF/CHF in Hogan, and two experienced smalls.

That's no options forward of 50 to a complete attacking line filled with permanent options and depth. It has been locked down for the next 5 years at least. Massive win.

From now on drafts are midfield centric with a look at filling remaining holes, as opposed to bridging major gaps in structure. Again- this is a win. We will have many forward options whilst some clubs have none. We will stretch every backline in the comp. That's a win before you even step on the park.

Confirmed he will be playing Forward/ Ruck. Sounds excited too!

The bloke can seriously play but Brad Scott opted to play spud Hansen instead of him this year which got alot of north supporters bewilded.. they really rated this bloke very highly! Talking to a mate who is a north supporter last night and he said he shatterd they are trading him off. Said what you will get with pedo is Workrate workrate workrate!! he is a one touch grab with a bit of x factor too. He kicked 8 goals in a VFL game last year too which is a veiw into what he could become for us.

Looks quite impressive against Port; has anyone got any footage of him playing against decent opposition?

Kelly O'Donnell took on a new, specialised role focusing on players at the secondary level and those out of favour/out of contract.

Pedersen's recruitment has got K O'D's paws all over it.

This is the first test of his role and of his abilities.

Fascinating.

If he can win some hitouts and kick straight, he can wear a purple wig and a pink tutu for all I care.

"Pedo" is out. Not because of its double meaning, but because that is what Norf fans called him. He needs to be cleansed with a new nickname.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
