I know it's from Jay Clark, the guy who said Monfries to Dees on 4 year deal, but...

@ClarkyHeraldSun: Dees want Dom Barry, slick left-footed wingman, as part of Hogan trade. Had an outstanding draft combine. Averaged 18 poss for NT.

@ClarkyHeraldSun: Barry sweetens the deal for Dees. Run and carry specialist finished 3rd in 3km time trail, 9th in beep, and nailed 3rd best kicking score.

How can GWS trade Dom Barry?

Dominic Barry

“Medium midfielder with accurate left foot and excellent natural pace and endurance. His run and carry and evasiveness were features of his performances for the NT, averaging 18.4 disposals across the at NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.”

Yeah dawes for pick 13 is way too much.. even at best he'd be a second round pick. Average player that had a couple of ok seasons when collingwood were the premiers... wouldn't be too happy if this happened. I rekon we'd have a better chance trading a couple of players for him or trading a player and a second/third round pick for him and a lower pick

Thats nice Billy,,, but just in case we miss a crack in the 'mini',

Pick 3 for Toumpas

Pick 4 Wines

Pick 13 best available draftee with pace

Pick 20 Pederson/Stevens

Pick 26 Viney

Pick ? Colcohoun/Hrovat?

Farren Ray for one of our comp picks, or a player trade.

can we get another free agent, maybe a russell?

Seemed to be close to the mark IMO.

Can someone with a degree in rocket science please explain how this works?

GWS can take players from NT as part of their zone. What they can do is pre-list those players and then, if they want, trade them. Or they can just list them and not trade them.

Melbourne have obviously said "We like a player in your zone and we'd like you to pre-list him and trade him to us as part of the Hogan deal".

Make sense?

That's great - thanks. I wonder if the deal would be 3 + 13 for Hogan + 20 + Barry or if 20 comes off the table.

I have no idea and only guessing but I would say pick 3 for hogan and player?

Does anyone know anything about Barry where would he fit in if he was in the draft in terms of number / rating??

why not just pick 3? GWS arne't going to get much better offers than that.

Best they can do is probably the dogs, with pick 5 and a player, but GWS wouldn't be interested, and dogs would be paying overs

Yep, 2 top 15 picks is too much for one 17 Yr old kid..

It's just too much risk. And if it fails we get well & truly burned.

Pick 3,,, + a player or a pick around 30ish.

Yep. GWS badly want Whitfield, Toumpas, and Grundy. They can have maximum of pick 3 for Hogan. No more. Otherwise, we'd happily take Toumpas or Grundy with pick 3. They can only trade Hogan, they can't draft him next year (I believe), so pick 3 is the best they'll get. Simple really, or it should be.........

There's no such thing as a free lunch I guess. We had a win today with Viney slipping to 26 - the cost is that we may have to pay overs for MD2. All good.

Don't see how we could get Barry though - the reports on the Saints-GWS trade today indicate they have utilised all their zone recruits now.

Honestly, I'd be more than happy with Grundy or Toumpas + Wines or other.

We don't have to have Hogan, unless its a 'Gentlemans agreement'.

Bulldogs could trump our pick 3 with pick 5 + pick 21 (From Hawks)

That said I damn hope we have interviewed this Barry kid from NT for piece of mind that he isn't going to want to go running home to NT several times a year.

Pick 5 doesn't beat 3, doesn't matter what you add, the true value is the first given pick.

I would not mind Hogan, Wines, Viney, all Melbourne supporters in the team that would probably introduce a lot more passion and leadership into the team. As for GWS if they weren't interested in Barry its of no concern to them to chuck him in as a sweetner as long as they get 3rd pick its not as if its costing them anything to do so.

I must say I do like the way this draft is going so far for the Dees.... keep it going boys.... thought of possibly adding Ray, Pederson and Dawes if he can be bought across for a reasonable price to the time is exciting... This will be a very different team next year and the year after. So how many days to footy season?

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
