So if you're not being optimistic, it shocks you? How ominous.

No I think it gives him a nudge if he gets overly optimistic perhaps

Oh come on OD, it's not that bad. A few good draft picks and some good trades and we will be off and running. Add a hard pre season, a decent run with injuries and natural development of some of our younger players. I am going off to book my 2013 GF seats in anticipation.

Small joke there Redleg

Any how don't DEMONS come from HELL?

Great move by Carlton. Malthouse is the best coach in the land. He took a struggling collingwood to 8 finals campaigns, 4 grand finals and 1 premiership, and left them stronger than ever. He developed a steely, uncompromising mindset that was rooted in philosophical ideology. His strategies were formulated from gladiatorial warfare. He is the master and I guess Carlton would have to be fools to pass him up.

It ponders the question. Why havnt we got him?

Or was it beacause we didnt have the nouse to get the best available candidate.

Anyone who still thinks that Malthouse was NOT available for the 2012 season is kidding themselves.

The fact that we did not get the best candidate available gives us an insight into why we do not have a winning culture.

For heavens sake, we did not even interview Malthouse for the position.

What person in their right mind would ever pick an untried apprentice over his master, especially when his master is at the peak of his abilities.

If you ever want to identify the root of our problems, just have a look at the people that hired Bailey over Sheedy, and Neeld over Malthouse.

Really, it is unbelieveable.

For the boards sake, Neeld better do well in 2013. It is hard to swallow this constantly silly decision making. It is like having G.W.Bush in charge of your army.

Eddie is quite right to ask how the hell Carlscum will afford Cloke. Everyone wants to know how they get away with dodgy "ambassadorial " roles. Previously that dog was left to sleep, but now Eddie is [censored] off.

This will be fun :)

In the meantime everyones looking over there >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

For the very first time I am with McChins on this one.......dig deep Eddie.

Malthouse could never have coached last year. Hell, he can't even coach until October of this year because of his contract with Collingwood. Also, A Bush joke? Aren't those about 10 years out of date? Edited by Chook

MM is going to take Carltank to the cleaners.

My guess would be he agreed with the Wobbles not to coach this year and has been paidout on the agreement.

That would last until the end of the season, let me see oh yes October. So he is not talking to anyone (officially) until then.

Meanwhile the Carlton who have not spoken to him and have nowhere else to go just have to sit a wait whilst MM works out just how big his paper bag will be.

They have not thought through just how much he will cost him directly and indirectly (arizona, facilities, new coaches, and players).

Eddie will slowly increase the pressure, first Judd, then MM is a stress ball, next shouldn't the tanking inquiry extend to Carltank, followed by they are asking all their mid tier players to take a haircut to fit more in the cap.All the defensive stuff he needs to do to spike Cloke and MM taking other wobbles assets.

In the words of paul Keating Eddie is looking forward to doing him slowly.

The upside for us is they need to clear the way for cloke someone has to go and that opens up the trade table a bit more.

McLean, Hampson, Thornton, Russell ... no thanks.

It's line ball but my money is on Malthouse, Cloke and Carlton causing Eddie to choke on his weetbix.

Had an amusing thought that Mick might blink in the face of family pressure and knock back the Blue's offer. Long shot I know, but where would that leave the Blues if MM and Roos both decline the "privilege" of coaching the Blues"?

Choco Williams?

An assistant?

Up shlt creek!!!

You have to think this has all been fleshed out for some time now.

This is all just rubber stamping

The Bloos administration comes up looking like bullies in a school yard. "We are the biggest & best & nobody, even one of our superior breed, is going to stand in the way".

This is a clear knee jerk reaction to the baying Lgon St masses & if, - like Jimmy Hird this year - they struggle next year, the split will match the grand canyon.

A potential implosion in the making & who deserves it more!!

Agree. Ratten would still be there if Roos and Malthouse were unavailable.

This whole situation with Carlton and Malthouse is pathetic. Whilst the media go a million miles an hour at the non-existent tanking story it is obvious to anyone with half a brain that a real story, the fact Malthouse was sounded out for the Carlton job possibly up to a year ago is right under their noses. Some are on to but doing nothing about it and I've heard a few express surprise at Kernahan's pause when he was asked about Malthouse yesterday. It may have been an accident, appears he just forgot his lines.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players.  Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin Boeing 737 flight to Perth for this upcoming team-bonding, fun-filled, weekend getaway.   This cross-continent Round 4 clash at Fremantle Oval starting at 2:05pm AEST promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies slight favourite.     If we lose, finals will be remoter than Rottnest Island and the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday, an omen.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
