List our current Top 10 on playing list (August 2012)

Thought I'd see where we think our current top 10 players are.

1- Nathan Jones

2- Mitch Clark

3- James Frawley

4- Mark Jamar

5- Jack Grimes

6- Liam Jurrah

7- Colin Sylvia

8- Sam Blease

9- Jack Trengove

10- Jeremy Howe

apologies to Jordie Mckenzie.

Maybe view it as, if these players were out injured, it would hurt our chances. Not based on potential (ie. Watts, T Mcdonald).

In no particular order;

Jones

Clark

Frawley

Jamar

Howe

Watts

Grimes

Martin

Jurrah

Trengove

Top 6 pick themselves, and yes, even Watts.

The next 4 are difficult - Grimes & Trengove must be in our Top 10, and they MUST continue to push to be in our Top 5 - I don't think they are there yet. Jurrah makes the list based on his past seasons scoring output. Stef Martin is the one that will be argued by some, but I think big Stef is a valuable contributor to the team. We have a lot of players that could be put in the 6-10 range, which is part of the reason why we are stuggling.

The thing that will continue to hurt us is the fact that we have minimal in the Top 50 in the league. Yeah, sure, the main one published is Sheehan's, but still, I would only have Jones and Clark in the 30+ range based on this year. We need to have 5 or 6 players regularly in the top 30 in my view.

On average 5 of the top 10s above have been out of the team for a while (Jurrah, Clark) and /or currently (Watts Frawley, Jamar)...

Maybe a good sign for next year.

Jones

Grimes

Clark

Frawley

Jamar

Watts

Trengove

Howe

Jurrah

Rivers

I wanted Blease in this list but he remains potential at this stage, even though the potential is quickly becoming reality.

I also wanted T McD, but he just misses out.

Some may question my placing of Rivers, but he remains in the top 2-3 effective footballers on our list and we would have been further stuffed over the past 3 years without him.

Clark

Frawley

Grimes

Howe

Jones

McKenzie

Rivers

Sylvia

Trengove

Watts

Note that there are only 2-3 midfielders on that list. If we want to improve, that number has to bump up to 4-5.

Clark - Would have kicked 60+ in a bottom 3 side if he played the whole year

Frawley - Easily our best defender. AA and gun

Jones - Proven me wrong, continues to improve will be a 300 game player

Sylvia - Has it all, judged way to harshly

Watts - Showing great signs. Will be a star

Trengove - Been down this year yet still in top 3 disposals for club

Grimes - Showing good signs that he can play a whole year

McDonald - Second year player holding down CHB. Solid!

Jurrah - Proven goal kicker, perfect foil for Clark

Howe - Elite runner, elite mark, not the best kick but a real asset when plays to strengths

As with Dr. Mubutu - Definitely need more mids in these lists!

If you mean those on our list though not necessarily available this week, and in no specific order:

FRAWLEY, GARLAND, T MCDONALD, GRIMES, JONES, BLEASE, TRENGOVE, WATTS, CLARK, HOWE. Probably Jurrah over Garland if fit and not distracted or held up elsewhere for some reason.

Only 3.5 mids there, which I guess highlights our biggest problem area.

A lot of love for LJ on these lists. Unfortunately, I get the (unsubstantiated) feeling he may not be on our list next year.

Really rate him when he's on song, but that has only occurred a handful of times, and not in quite some time.

Is he in Neeld's plans for 2013?

Ah, I could have fallen for this trap, but I count 5-6 players on that list that should be part of our midfield going forward...

I like this one. I think Howe will continue to rise and probably get top 5 b&f this year. But I agree with this 11, especially Daylight.

Yeah the Daylight brothers, they're handy.

Always up and about early in the morning like clockwork, pretty bloody focussed during early afternoon games, but they fade-out during twilight games (not even going to mention where they are during Night games).

Still the will burn you given half a chance...

I can't believe the lack of love for Rivers. Hardly anyone is getting him credit, except NSC who generously gave Riv two positions in the top ten!

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
