Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Trade Sylvia - just do it

My crystal ball says that in 5 years time we'll all be sitting at the G at Sylvia's farewell game, moaning that he could have been "the greatest footballer ever, if he wasn't so lazy".

Just like the club itself, Sylvia will forever continue to torture us, divide us, and generally make us want to bang our heads against the wall.

When he is good, he is very good. It's just that he isn't good very often, which is far more frustrating than watching a player who is plain talentless.

His been very good in alot of the final 10 games - the consistency is almost there. We've been saying it for years but another Pre-season (A Neeld/Misson pre-season) should see him become an elite player next season.

In regards to consistency I mean more over the duration of his career. I actually think we don't have to be shite for very much longer. If we play our cards right over the free agency and trade period (especially) and use picks well, we can turn it around rapidly.

Just tell me who are you going to trade him for????

A 18yo draft pick???? ....What other midfielder from other clubs are you going to replace him with.....

It's all very well to yell....trade him...delist him.... but you have to get a better player to replace him

So tell me who is going to replace him??????

Basically if we could get a 2nd rounder for him, somewhere in the early 20's, this could be packaged with a player or what have you to pick up a solid established mid. Doesn't have to be a superstar or anything, a hard worker with some leadership ability that fills in the leadership vacuum created by Sylvia.

Col will stay next year. Neeld likes him and sees him as part of the future. With Green gone and Moloney's future in doubt, we need to retain experience, talented players who are starting to show that they can perform under this game plan.

The only way he will go is if he seriously doesn't want to play for us and wants out.

8 years of average crud is what Sylvia has given us, Dream on if you think he will step up from that,

One bad game?? are you for real?? 3 possessions to half time last week.

NEVER finished inside the top 5 in our b&f in 8 seasons.

Lazy lazy lazy. Must go. He is a cancer. No wonder our culture is shiite when we have lazy senior players who won't chase, and give second efforts. What must younger players think after watching him?? Oh if he doesn't run why should I....

Can't go quick enough for mine.

yes, one bad game. I don't care about previous years or the start of the year when he was recovering from a broken back. Since then he has been CONSISTEntly excellent. so stfu

Quality post. What are you 5years old? Schoolyard bully?? Is it school holidays again?

He's a liability because he has consistently proven cannot play a team role nor perform consistently as an individual. If you think 4 games out of 5 makes him a champion you are deluded.

from Neeld's comments he doesn't agree with you. even suggests a leadership role.

i know col is frustrating and hasn't fulfilled his potential but neeld reckons he is now on-board so we might see a better col next year

if there is a chance of that then we need to keep him. we haven't got much class and i doubt we are going to get all the mature fa/trades that many landers expect

Maybe but Dean Bailey was keen to turn around Travis Johnstone and play him off the halfback. Traded within months.

Can't see how this Sylvia is different (age/talent/price) to TJ.

Mind you posters were against TJ being traded. Pfft

I wasn't talking about landers being against trading col, i was saying many landers think we are going to score well on fa and trades to bring in some experienced good players from other clubs. I'm thinking this may not happen so easily and we don't want to get stuck with little experience (class) and essentially just a new bunch of kids. Of course I'm hoping this doesn't happen and we strike it rich with some good gets (in which case we can give up some players like col)

but of course anything could happen between now and end of drafting but i'm skeptical especially about picking up any classy experienced mids

Have never been a fan of Moloney and Silvia in the same side, with Moloney gone Silvia has stepped up and will probably be a keeper unless their is someone better out there that we really need. He is one of the few players with true trade value.

He's worth a 1st rounder to someone. Maybe a Sydney. I'd take it in a heartbeat. As I would Beemer for Boak.

I've said it before i'll say it again. Sylvia is our best player. Judging him harsher than others is unfair. Players don't seem to thrive in the environment that we provide, yet he is still one of our most productive.

Don't tell me about B&F finishes. I don't care. He has battled OP, started seasons with broken backs and broken jaws. He's been played on a HFF or deep in the forward line when he should have always been in the midfield. He is our only player capable of tearing a game apart, yet people want to move him on for untried kids? Give me a spell.

He is our best kick, surprisingly quick, great mark and has improved his decision making greatly.

Good, fit footballers can play until they are 34. He still has 8 years and a couple of premierships left in him at the MFC

Let's see him get through a full pre-season without any off-field indiscretions... if he can manage that, I believe he can step up and possibly even find himself back in the leadership group.

Sorry used 'replace' too many times...

With the edit function just replace the times you have written replace with a suitable replacement .

By the by talk of trading Sylvia is crazy talk. As i have just posted on another thread, col with a decent run with injuries could be our most important player next year.

I've loved his last 8 or so games, his coach has praised his work ethic and leadership (and i don't think Neeld is one to gild the lily) and in an interview this week sounded focused and professional (noting that playing well last week is ok but he needs to back it up this week in Perth).

He also noted he is dead keen to get back into pre season work.

Not trying to be a smart arse Junior, but this business about trading Boak for Beamer tends to weaken your credibility on the trade front. Has the hundreds of related posts not alerted you to the fact that Moloney is a restricted free agent?

If he want to go to Port all they have to do is offer him an amount that is more than we would be willing to match to keep him (which to be honest i don't think would be much, especially given we ill get compensation if he goes to another club as a FA). Boak is unlikely to come into the equation (unless we did something weird like match their offer in order to force a trade, but we won't do that and i'm not sure that it is within the rules anyway)

It is the fact that he has produced sweet fa in 8 years and is supposed to be a senior leader of the club that he is in the firing line, or would you prefer to take pot shots at players who have just finished their second or third season?

8 years? That is complete rubbish, there is no way he'll be playing in 2019/2020. How often do you get players playing past 32-33? Very very rarely.

I hope he gets elevated to the leadership group next year.

Inherent in that will be that he's earnt it, he's focussed, and that he's finally acting as a mature, disciplined, committed MFC leader - on and off the field.

If he brings that level of focus and commitment, he could win the Brownlow.

You know i wouldn't be shocked if he does get elevated into the LG. A good way to encourage some people to step up is to tell them you think they have it in them and that its time they do so. Might be another example of Neelds man management approach'.

The most annoying thing abouth this bloke is that if he ever put in 4 qtrs for 22 games at at least 75% of his ability hed be an absolute gem.

its just that about 98% of us just think this will never happen. In that light we'd want a player that was maybe 75% as good but 100% of the time as opposed to the 15% of brilliance most of the time you get with Col

its all about return. Anyone in investment will get this no doubt

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
