No, you've got it wrong. Jones has been great on-field so far this year, there's no denying that. But, here you are saying that he should be Captain based purely on this variable alone. Do yourself a favour and go and read a book on Leadership just so you have a bit of an idea.

That's right McQueen, Chunk does far too much surfing in his spare time to be a Captain.

Said right from the start of the year that Neeld's first mistake was appointing the pair of Jack's as captains, especially the Trengove one, but it would be a greater mistake demoting them both next year. I wouldn't be surprised if Grimes stays on as Captain and Trengove Vice Captain.

I agreed at the time. However, now we must stick by them and let them develop. Trengove, particularly, is down on form but he will come back - he has the class. Also both of them have handled themselves offield (interviews etc) with a maturity beyond their years and experience. They will be great.

Voted yes as I firmly think he should be, and should have been this year. That said, I think that at the end of the day we have made our bed and now must lay in it, at least for a stretch longer than we already have. Absolutely love the bloke and have done for a long time. Would love to see him made captain, but think that he may have to deal with being one of those players who should have been, but were never in the right situation to be.

Geelong lived off a strong leadership group for a decade. Jones is a welcome, valuable part of this group. Leave the leadership group as is. The club needs stability in many areas and the leadership group is not one that needs fixing. It just needs development

i dont really care who is made captain next year but i think that the coach should choose a leadership group then out of those nominated players the playing group votes who they think should be captain.

Jones should be captain next year, everyone knows it - but is too stubborn to admit it.

Trengove and Grimes are lucky to be even getting games this year, let alone Captain the club.

Grimes is second for possessions. Trengove is 6th (about the same as Frawley), second to McKenzie for tackles, and in the top handful in pretty well all other stats.

And the idea that the club makes decisions based on superficial considerations like stubbornness, just about sums you up.

no one knows what happens behind closed door and how these players are around the club.

The boys were chosen because they show enough leadership qualities that Neeld deemed them both worthy of Co-captaining the club.

As none of us are players, or directly apart of the inner sanctums of the club we can only speculate on "who" and "who doesn't" have what it takes to be a leader.

At the start of the year a lot of us "screamed bloody murder" when Beamer didn't get the Captains nod, as we speculated that he had "strong leadership qualities" when Neeld and others involved obviously didn't think so. Imagine the huge threads and ridicule (even more so) if he had been appointed Captain (like many of us wanted) and he was a Captain during the massive form slump we have seen him in for most of the year.

We thought he had the leadership capabilities to get the Captaincy but he obviously didn't otherwise he would have gotten the job and at the end of the day we all don't really have much of a clue as we are not involved in the club.

So the point I'm trying to make is we may THINK that Nathan Jones would make a good Captain, but really we can only speculate as none of us are directly involved in the inner sanctums of the club to "witness" his leadership capabilities first hand.

We just have to have faith in the coaches, board members and players to make the right choice as they the only ones who are actually qualified to make the Captaincy decision.

I love the way the Jonesboy is going but atmo, I think we've got it right.

Lets hope Jonesy keeps improving further over the years.

IMO Trenners will see the benefit of a couple of preseasons under misson, & will have learnt a lot this year.

Grimes is going well of late and I think is doing well.

Like drafting Scully and Trengove and not even interviewing Dustin Martin, hmm ok..

Trengove has been ordinary all year, yet you actually think he should be captain ahead of Jones?

If you want to go into stats then Jones would stick out like even more of beacon as the logical choice for captain.

Jones should be captain, simple as that, I give Grimes a pass on courage, maybe he'll be Vice next year.

Trengove shouldnt be anywhere near the captaincy.

Trengove shouldnt be anywhere near the captaincy.

That's not what the coach, the FD, the board and the players think.

In any case, I was responding to your (inane) assertion that Trengove and Grimes are lucky to be getting games.

You are a fool, both players leading the club in non negotiable's and key stats, tackles ect

just not racking up possessions.

Captains do more than rack up numbers, talk to Moloney

I have no trouble with Grimes as Captain, I would prefer Jones personally -

but Grimes has been servicable this year, I think Jones should be our captain in 2013.

I'd be fine with Grimes though - but not Trengove.

No spin on non-negotiables make up for Trengoves lack of form and leadership in 2012.

Nathan Jones is everything a captain should be, going forward he is the right man for the job.

From all reports, Jones work ethic and professionalism off field is second to none at our club

Leading the way Jonesy

Leading the way Trenners.

The difference in Jones leading on-field aswell as off:)

I rate Trengove like the rest of you, I just havent seen leadership qualities in him.

At least with Jack Grimes, if he is ever down on form - he is never down on courage,

he leads like Nathan and should be vice captain next year.

you make a decision and stick with it. That's what makes a good leader which Neeld is. No flip flop.

That pretty much sums it up. I would have bene happy with Jones as Cap but it really doen't matter because not everyone can be captain and he is a leader and role model in any case.

What I want to now from the poll author is WTH is Jack Viney in there? Surely that's a joke?

You haven't seen enough leadership qualities in Trengove?

All us supporters can really go by are his media interviews and his on-field performances.

Does Jack lead by example? Is he courageous? Does he speak well in front of the media?

He more than excels at all of the above.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
