Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think every year we should make the best player from the year before the captain. Beamer would have made an outstanding captain this year, just as Green did last year. Alternatively we could back in the two young players that the club clearly believes in and the players want to play for, and stop trying to fix the rare things at this club that aren't actually broken.

So leadership at the club isn't broken?

We have one stand out leader in Nathan Jones, on and off the field.

Trengove had an ordinary year, whether he can't handle the leadership role or not I dont know.

But, he wasn't a leader this year and damned if Im going to sit here and sing his praises as captain.

Grimes gets a pass mark on courage alone, he shown he can lead in the latter part of the year.

What you seemingly don't understand is that the collective leadership group is far more important than the coin [censored]. If you realised that you wouldn't waste so much time who the coin [censored] is.

Thought I would start a poll.

Jones stands out above all others.

I believe he should be our captain in 2013, has earned this right.

He should have been Captain last year but its too late can't take it off the 2 young blokes now. Thats what breeds bad culture, making irrational decisions like that.

I am a firm believer that the LG and the captain should be selected (read re-selected) every year.

I don't care if there are new names and as BH says - it's more important who is in the LG.

As a captain, I will not just accept the captaincy because I had it the year before.

As for the MFC - far more important that the LG has these names - Trengove, Grimes, Clark, and Jones. Jamar, Frawley, and Garland are fine additions to the LG but are not the all-round leaders that those 4 guys are.

Wether we want to think about it or not is not the issue

The realissue is how did both boys go in their roles as joint Captains?

If you believe that both did extremely well then this is indeed a silly post

However I bet you know that most supporteres are split over this

Jones would be a worthy candidate . If we cant talk about this then why do we talk about anything?

After all Im sure Needly is going to base his decisions on what we post here

You can see he did that during the seaon ;)

We have one stand out leader in Nathan Jones, on and off the field.

This line alone demonstrates that you simply sit in the stands and watch the team play (as pretty much everyone here does). You think leadership is being a good kick? I've followed some incredible leaders in my life who I've never seen kick a ball at all, does that mean they shouldn't have got the gig? There's 165 hours a week where you don't get to see the players and how they operate, so what makes you think you know who the best leader is with three hours of evidence a week?

Being able to play and being able to lead are two different things. Being able to do both at the same time is a rare skill.

If there's a premiership captain at our club right now (and I hope there is), I think his name is Jack Grimes.

Think it's an appropriate time to bump this thread.

Can we say that we got it wrong yet?

No need to say it 3. Easily one of the biggest [censored] ups in MFC's recent lengthy history of [censored] ups.

You created this thread/poll, the results conclusively show that almost 4 -1 are against the idea, so why not bow to popular opinion and concede - why put up a poll in the first place if you refuse to accept the result?

This is one of my favorite dooozies, hahaha..

Oh dear!!

Long live the KING!

Grimes. FMD. His kicking is getting worse every year. I'd say give the Captaincy to Jones and let Trengove and Grimes focus on getting their careers back on track however recent history suggests that this would merely destroy Jones's game.

how the fcuk should I know? Should the captain be the most consistent player or the best overall character/leader?

New coach, get rid of about 8-12 player, new assistant except todd viney, start the captaincy process again. Who know it might be what the club needs. [censored] we cant sit on our hands and do fuckall this off season

Going through these old threads feels like waking up in a cheap Thai motel bed with a raging hangover, stinking of cigarettes, half your head shaven, a tattoo of Jackass' Stevo on your forehead and a kathoey prostitute lying beside you wearing your wedding band. You know all this happened and it seemed so right at the time. In the clear light of day, you realize how insane it all was though it felt great at the time.

Just for the record, I have never been to Thailand, gotten a tattoo, gotten married or used an escort, so on reflection, what would I know ? :D

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
