I hope it more than stings - I hope it hurts him right through. I hope he really feels bad about it:not resentful, just really bad, and maybe embarrassed.

Absolutely no doubt that Neeld will have told him exactly why, in his criteria, he has been dropped.

Will it be good for him? Who knows?

Over to you Jack - do you really want it??

I don't like it, but I understand it.....

What I fear is the three cheers from many folk in here.

I just wish this kind of swift justice was equally and universally applied.

Becuase it really hasn't been thus far in regards to many team selections this season.

Not happy other then this week he has been o.k and players like dunn and davey should go before jack.

binman is right. watts does have class and polish maybe we should stop trying to turn him into something he may not or might never be and continue to enjoy his skills and modest progression, I remember when schwarz used to play back pocket.

What ? When will Melbourne supporters understand that half-hearted efforts in contests won't be tolerated at AFL level ?

Football is all about who'll stand up in a final. Watts can't even stand the heat in the home and away. He's miles off being a decent key forward.

And please don't tell me that he doesn't need to be 'crash and bash'. We all know he won't and doesn't have to. But he does have to stop avoiding marking contests. He does have to put his body on the line. Right now he doesn't. And it's not acceptable. As a supporter I'm offended by his token efforts.

The one problem he has always had is his lack of intensity. There were a couple of times against the Saints where he just did not try hard enough. This is why Hurley is rated, because he goes hard to get the ball, Watts doesn't.

I suspect he was dropped by quarter time last week. He was given a job to do that he failed at and then backed it up with 3/4's of a really poor effort. It's a shame. I want Jack to succeed but I fear it might be slipping away from him.

He needs to go harder at the man & the contest. It doesn't matter how old he is or how big he is the problem is between his ears. Also he didn't lay one tackle last week! Not one! The balls in his court.

Let's just nail Jack Watts to a cross and let him bleed to death. I just cannot believe the stick this kid gets. Next in line Jack Viney. If he doesn't become a super star within two weeks of his first game he can join Jack W on Calvary.

Again rubbish

Is it being wrong that really irks you? His performance was well worthy of ommission, it was worse than anything Green or davey have dished up.

You want the best out of Jack Watts, then let the coach do his job and stop taking limp wristed potshots.

In my minds eye I see Jack Watts tearing up a basketball court. I hope Jack Watts and the coaching staff change that.

He's not aggressive enough for that either.

Neeld has made it pretty clear the level and intencity he expects our boys to play at.

Whether your name is Jack Watts, or Joe Blogs, if you're not laying a single tackle in a wet match, don't expect to play next week. More than fair IMO. But gee jack was frustrating to watch last week.

I made the point that Neeld would not be picking Watts if he wasn't showing the required level of intensity. Well he's dropped him and i take from that he believes his intensity is not where it needs to be. That's good enough for me.

I stand by my comments about Jack's talent etc but i also trust Neeld and i'm hopeful he really does know how to get the best out of players. I'll be fascinated to read KC's description of the Casey game as i reckon how Watts responds will give us a great indication of where he is at.

I suspect that you are right - Neeld made it extremely clear to all in that preseason clip that he is very keen on the "role" and if that "role" was Fisher then he didn't fulfil his part of the contract - Neeld said that if you don't do what is asked of you, you will not play.

So, Neeld really had no option if he is to maintain his credibility.

Sorry Big Jim, I'm not a Watts knocker but can't agree with you here, Davey has improved every week this season and provided some forward pressure. Dunn took over from Watts last week picking up Fisher and done the job. I'm not writing Watts off far to young for that and not enough games in him..He showed glimpses last season especially through the middle of the year.

IMO 1 week out is not enough unless he really tears it up, send him back for two reasons build confidence and build hunger, it may spark something inside him

The one problem he has always had is his lack of intensity. There were a couple of times against the Saints where he just did not try hard enough. This is why Hurley is rated, because he goes hard to get the ball, Watts doesn't.

I think his biggest problem is inconsistency - he fails to put in for 4 quarters. Too many times he'll have a good first quarter or half, then disappear from the match. He often seems to pull this disappearing act during clutch quarters, such as the 3rd against Richmond. He is not doing enough at the moment to justify a regular place in the side.

This year they have tried him up forward, at the bounce, on the wing, and as a spare man in defence. He needs to go to Casey and get his hands on the ball (at least 20 possessions per game) and build up his confidence. I hope he can do this; i'm just not sure if he can develop into the sort of player Neeld wants.

I think he learned a big lesson chasing Fisher around in the first quarter last week, he was absolutely exhausted by the first break and had no effect on the game. I thought playing him on Riewoldt would have been a good learning experience but playing on Fisher (good call by the coaches) he learned the amount of work required to be a top line player, at least I hope he did. I don't think it will be one game and back up for Jack, he is going to have to string some good games to gether to come back into the team. I hope he does and that this is the making of his career from here on in.

Barassi again: ".....what makes a champion? .....consistency of performance is the factor that separates true champions from 'merely' elite players.". and "...big difference between bearing the talent and skills to be a 'star' and having the consistency requires to be a 'champion'. You need those consistent champion players to make a champion team."

Jack - please, please show us all here, doubters and supporters alike that you are to be a champion and not just a potential star. Nothing less will make all here happy. You have the talent and the skills, I think most would agree.....you need consistency and you need it soon.

We need some champions in our team - will you be one of them? Do you really want to be?

Swift?

The kid's had 40+ games in a row, and you can't seriously say he deserved those games on form alone.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
