New Captain Mitch clarke

BIG JIM

Recommended Posts

After watching mitch clark in the red and blue last week i have to say this guy could and should be captain of this great club. He has spirit and fight and can have a great impact on a game when a strong leader is needed. He IMO is the best man for the job and has shown more BALLS then any other demon. Mitch is a fighter and a fighter is what we need. Thoughts? Let the jacks go back to learning to play AFL.

How often do you want to change captains? I'm not thrilled about Grimgove and would rather let them play rather than burdening them with captaincy, but they've got the job so let them get on with it.

I think if we made an error or judgement this year, it was putting the 2 youngsters up a year or so too early.

I'm an old fashioned bas^%3d and for me it was Beamer all the way as Captain (if he wanted it), Clark as VC and Trengove as DVC. Grimes wasn't even on the park last year so i'm not sure how they arrived at him being joint Captain even though he's a courageous bugger.

Bit hard to drop an "out of form" captain too and the reality is that being so young in their career and so under developed physically, especially Grimes given he missed the latter part of last year, at least one of them, if they weren't captians, would probably have needed some time in the 2s at some point in order to freshen up and regain their form and confidence.

I think when Neeld looks back on this year this will be one area he'll wish he could revisit.

It's quite obvious to me who the men/leaders are out there and it isn't Trengove and Grimes at this point in their careers . Maybe later, but not now. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though.

I wish them luck regardless and hope they do well but personally i'd rather see the both of them just focus on their footy skills/development for the next 2 or 3 years rather than being burdened with the Captaincy at this early stage.

Weekly, just like they do in the 12 and under football leagues so everyone gets a turn. They should also take

turns of who will bring the oranges for half time, and rotate Mother jumper washing duties on a weekly basis too.

Could be a very good idea....Mitch Clark has shown serious ticker this year..

The Grimes Trengove combination i have hardly noticed....Let them concentrate on getting the Leather.

MC can handle the Toss & the Media....

Mitch Clark has that X Factor....Excellent Get.

Why don't we just give the captaincy to who was BOG or the most courageous from the previous week?

Sounds like a solid plan...

When the game is going against you as a team you need a man who has SPIRIT,PASSION and as jimmy said a bit of SPUNK. Mitch has all of them and i know who i would want to lead me into war. He just has that presence like a captain needs. To say boys follow me and we will make it. This is how its done. GO DEES

I don't think it will happen this year, BIG JIM, but 2013.....??

easy to see mitch's leadership material through crashing packs and nearly necking himself it's a lot harder to judge a very young midfielder's leadership skills on the field at this point in time. Also away from the field Mitch might not be much of a leader or he might be Ghandi. In short i probably should have just wrote I Don't know.

But it was all about aptitude tests and who could drink fastest & will others in the off season to perform and who has the most mates and bla bla bla

I like the Jacks but when does human fair dinkum understanding had come into the appointing of these kids fair dinkum, unbelievable....

Love Mitch Clark his presence to the ball should personify our sides approach to all games but 1st yr players making captain is a little risqué also... I would've said Beamer but because of 1 drunken indiscretion last yr our friggin sanitized selection committee decided against it, well that's the way I see it!!!! Mild mannered Clark should be Capitano nxt yr 4 sure

Sorry jumbo, won't happen.

Obviously we've taken this deeliberate step to organise ourselves for 2014 & onwards.

We gone young prior to a cleanup of past poor onfield playing culture...

I thought that might be case - Clark is a leader in our forward line.

I really hope he plays this week.

The two Jacks have been chosen to 'grow into the role'. We can expect mistakes and form slumps from them from time to time.

What matters is what kind of leaders they'll be in two or three years time when we are - hopefully - a top eight side.

Give it a rest already with this "burden of captaincy" nonsense.

Agree with RR. The appointment of the two Jacks should hopefully pay dividends in a few years from now. Given their age, it's not wholly unsurprising that they appear to be struggling 4 weeks into their first season, particularly in an under-performing team.

That said, Mitch Clark is the best recruit we've had in years. A complete masterstroke landing him. I love the man.

I should perhaps also add that I told him that I loved him at the Blazer presentation night. He smiled rather awkwardly and then moved on.

I didn't have the chance to tell him that I'm not in love with him in that kind of way. A bit embarrassing really.

I hope in pure Ron Burgundy style you told him "I wanna be on you"...

Am happy to have Clark and Jones as leaders who are a great example of how to attack the footy.

I see the captain's role as more of an off-field one, and on gameday, his role, apart from taking the toss of the coin, is probably more to rev up the troops and reinforce the coach's message during the intervals and regrouping the team during extended breaks in play. Once the ball is bounced, the captaincy almost becomes irrelevant in the course of play; every player on the field should be a leader!

No matter how much coach Neeld seems to explain things, people just continue to not understand why things happen

I reckon Neeld has said 4 or 5 times that these blokes were appointed captains for the LONG TERM, and for him to appoint other captains for only 2-3 years would be a waste of time because he knew that at some point in the future Jack/Jack would become captains

I'd much rather have 2 blokes who, when we hit a GF one day, have had years of experience in tight situations, rather than make some other bloke captain because he is tough, for a couple of years, then land the first two blokes in it when we are ready to win big games.

Eg, there is no way we will win on Queens Birthday this year. But don't you reckon it will be great for our captains to deal with leading the team under that kind of pressure when it doesn't matter, and when there are no expectations?

I'm very comfortable with the two Jacks as co-captains, they'll grow as leaders and players through time and for me some of the criticism hefted onto JT as been a bit unfair. He hasn't had a great start to the year but he is still learning, but how to be a captain and how to be a player.

I'm in awe of Clarke, I was worried he could be someone that might pump himself up after us offering him a lucrative deal and might start to believe he is all that. But every game he's shown passion, aggression, determination, and on Sunday he showed great pride and respect for the jumper by getting himself off the turf and off the ground unassisted. Did the no.11 very proud.

He's a great addition as a player and a leader. Captain? I wouldn't be 100% against it, but it goes right against what we're try to achieve with the pair of Jacks.

I'm in awe of Clarke....

Has had his faults, bit of a pretty boy with his underwear sponsor and his tatts.

Kicked a goal with Bingle. But that was short lived.

Not sure what this thread is about. He's already captain.

Leads our country well.

Thinking of moving this to the Cricket thread.

So annoying.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
