SEN have reported that funeral will be on Tuesday 27th at St Paul's with broadcast in Fed Square.

St Paul's seems odd. Jim was a Catholic (not that he cared much) but would have thought his family would have. St Pat's seems more appropriate.

Dean Bailey press conference is posted over on 'ology

We can have our opinions on Bailey the coach but the man is a class act.

He has always been a class act and always acted with great dignity and with the best interests of our club at heart.

He was a great person to have by Jim's side, and no doubt Jim appreciated this enormously.

unless already mentioned, idea from a non melb board, renaming the great southern stand, the JIM STYNES stand. Also a statue of Jimmy outside the G would be a appropriate memorial..

I have not posted my thoughts on Jimmys passing. Thought I led the shock wear off a bit. When Jimmys illness was announced and secondaries were mentioned I knew what result was going to be , it was just a matter of time. I had just seen my father go thru being struck down and passing away from cancer. So I had a fair idea about the traditional treatment etc. I guess Jim's durability on the field led to his durability in trying to beat cancer. I am "glad" he was in no pain when he passed away. Palitive care which I wish no one to come in contact with is a very dignified way to deal with the end of a persons life.

My heart goes out to Sam, their children, extended family, friends, MFC , Reach and anyone else who was touched by Jimmy.

(In 2008 I went to one game and stuck it out to the end...the freo game:) ) Apologies for my nick, was not expecting to post on such a thread

Just wanted to add both jack grimes and jack trengove spoke so well yesterday. Jim, your spirit lives on in these 2 outstanding young leaders. You have left the club in great hands.

I had a bit of time to kill and wondered how other supporters boards had felt ,the impact of Jim Stynes passing. I got a bit of a shock to be honest.

Just goes to show, how much he was thought of, not just by us (Melb supporters). tributes came from nearly every corner of the world.

But if any supporters from other clubs that happen to be passing thru demonland, and read this, and you paid your respects to Jim. on your supporter board, then I tip my hat to you all. You have done yourself proud, humanity lives.

If you havent done so already, and can take getting a bit teary all over again, I suggest you troll thru Bomber Blitz and Punt Road End as only 2 examples. It might be gloves off during the season and watching a game, but I was left in awe of the tributes posted by opposition supporters.

Well said Dean Bailey...Absolute class act....I knew there were no hard feelings.

Not sure if it's just me, but I couldn't hear what he was saying over the music?

Unfortunately this will mean that the majority of Demon supporters will be excluded from the service and only dignitaries and Politicians will be invited to attend; quite sad really. I will be in Federation Square with 1,000's of others but would have appreciated the opportunity of sharing the service with those that loved him.

I would have liked a funeral at the MCG too, since it was his football 'home'. However apparently Jim's wish (according to the Herald-Sun) was that he have a church funeral. The St Paul's precinct has a better capacity for crowds as it is across the road from Federation Square. Expect the funeral to be huge.

Jim also wanted his ashes sent back to Ireland and to be spread at a special place he had already chosen.

Thanks mate. See you in Fed Square.

For sure!

Funny story my brother in law works at St Paul's so he will be on duty for the funeral. I've asked him to say a prayer for Jim's family on the day. See you all at Fed Sq.

We are all aware of his remarkable feats of strength on the field and his compelling story of how he got there.

In the face of adversity and with nothing more than his resilience, courage and determination his story is unrivalled.

Off field Jim reluctantly took on a role of gigantic proportions, the immediacy and magnitude seemed too great for one man. At a time where the oldest club in the land was on its knees, with a bleak and short existence imminent, Jim stood up. He was engaging, he gave the Demons a voice again, a voice that people not only heard but listened to. Jim rebuilt relationships, mended fractions and eradicated a huge debt, he walked the corridors tall and others proudly followed.

Jim only knew one way, he held his hand out to the club just like the kids at Reach. Jim showed them how much they mean to others and how perceptions can be easily changed. He first created the vehicle, soon after came a path and Jim lead the way.

Jim didn’t let the club walk alone, he provided the belief, rebuilt the unity and a sense of belonging. After Jim’s sad passing it is now time for others to keep up the momentum, drive the passion and ensure the Melbourne FC return to where it belongs. Let us members grab the hand of the club and continue the climb that Jim started.

We are Melbourne, we stand united celebrating our clubs proud history and embrace the future. Being Melbourne means ‘You’ll never walk alone’.

With this in mind and as a sign of solidarity, passion and voice, imagine us members standing as one and singing this anthem at each home game from here on; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T00x5sRbZrc

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
