I find this guy very good to listen to. No [censored], straight to the point, and not worrying about other blokes feelings.

Will be a solid month in December I'm guessing, especially if a lot more ball work is done in January. DM said that there is still a long way to go, so if he's got bascially 4 weeks left of this year to concentrate mainly on running, we know what they'll be doing a lot of!

Also saw on Mark Neeld's twitter that the boys are having a time trial tomorrow. This will give a good indication of where the improvement has come from.

Good to hear Gysberts has improved.

seemingly it would have been hard for him not to improve.

But i see this a good thing in all honesty, alot of people seem to be down about he and Blease being so unfit, but.....

2011 is now over, the season anyway and if these boys were starting to show signs of ability (while being so unfit) if they are fit in 2012 then they should be vastly improved players. Exciting really.

It is easier to teach kids how to run than how to get their hands on the ball, thats a fact.

I've actually been wondering whether the likes of Blease and Jurrah (and Watts?) are actually unfit or if it is more a case of them lacking endurance. All of them are more "short burst" runners with great acceleration, and I suspect that is how they have trained/been trained in the past. It's great to see them now getting pushed to develop their endurance levels, but I wonder, and I'm completely lacking in knowledge in the subject of fitness, is there any possibility this can affect their ability to accelerate to the same degree?

It's great to see him pushing Gysberts and Blease and while they must dread every running session they will be amazed by how much more they will be able to do on the field.

Second and third efforts is a culture in champion teams. If Neeld and his arsenal of Assistant coaches foster this mind-set and couple it with the new game plan, then I'm really confident that massive improvement will be witnessed next season.

Go boys.

Good post, it is the old fast twitch slow twitch agrument, Blease and Jurrah will never have the endurance of a Jones or Bail. By working them to increase endurance wil they lose some speed, yes but what it will enable them to do is maintain their top speed for a longer periods of time. You wouldn't notice of the mark, accelartion but if you put it over 20-30m it would be minimual 0.1-0.2 of a second.

With the way the game is played burst players are becoming a liability you need players that have the endurance to run both ways and that is something both Blease and Jurrah need to work on. Great to burst out on the attack but you have to be able to chase and work hard back to create the defensise pressure.

The one that is more concerning is Gysberts doesn't have speed and doesn't have a tank, he needs to be running like Jones and Bail and hopefully over the next year we can see this.

Thanks for that DD... perhaps Gysberts needs to join Jones in the surf.

He wouldn't keep up with Jones.Gysberts would just like to lay out in the sun, whilst Jones would be searching for waves.

Disagree with respect to Blease. Blease is behind the eight ball in terms of endurance and I think his fitness and strength can only improve. And I don't think he will lose speed as such when his endurance capacity is extended.

Ht I can tell you from experience you will lose a little speed if you focus on increasing your endurance, it won't be noticable because as mentioned he will be able to maintain his top speed for longer periods of time. Our recently departed No1 pick is not quick but what he can do because of his endurance is run at his top speed longer than most which will make him look quick similar to Chris Judd.

By the look of the Gys, I doubt he sees much of the sun at all - maybe should have the nickname of "Milk".

Not sure about that one. he was genuinely quick. let's not distort things. just because he had endurance, it did not make him anything less than quick, and I am talking Blease type speed here.

I never thought Scully was genuinely quick. He was more of a scrambler, moving his legs really quickly. If you watch highlights, you'll never see him burn players like Blease/Rohan do.

I really enjoy listening to Dave Misson....This is the sort of person we have needed at the club for Decades....When people write of the Club for 2012 and beyond it is obvious to me they have no idea Misson has taken over..

Yes i know it will not happen overnight, but even now the attitude of the list must have improved insofar as demanding higher levels of performance..Just look Dave Misson in the eye and you can see it....

After Christmas the Football starts....it is going to look a lot different to 2011.

Twas good to see him looking more comfortable and relaxed than in the earlier interview... He sounds quite content as to where things are heading.

I think drdrake is right; Scully looks quicker in the last quarter of games because everyone else is more tired than he is.

Not the decision that rankles, the way he went about it and to top it off his old man getting a gig with them as well......

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
