Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Your link didn't work for me HT. This one did ... http://wwos.ninemsn....owcomments=true

Good on Thomo. Should be on the back pages of all newspapers that piece.

The most disturbing sentence from it ... It is alleged around footy circles that former Collingwood and Brisbane football guru Gubby Allen, has been sworn away from recruiting Collingwood players (specifically Pendlebury) at the request of Eddie McGuire.

Maybe Eddie has got some dirt on Gubby ! Wouldn't surprise me .

Well at least we've got Caro and Thommo on the case . The rest of the Melbourne media don't wanna bite the hand ..........

Patrick Smith might jump in but to read certain content in the Oz online now you need to subscribe ( free for 3 months and then what ? ) ( Herald Sun next ? )

Maguire has done a deal with Grubby Allen to make Collingwood players exempt from being approached by GWS .

Reminds me of Sheedys promise to Hird that Essenedon players wouldn't be targeted either .

And you would trust Allen or Sheedy to uphold this? Or any agreement should it prove to be inconvenient?

thanks to GW$ taking the dodgy knee off our hands we get a compensation pick for next year. jack viney will force us to use our first round draft pick to claim him under the father son rule but thanks to the compo pick which can be activated after the first live pick we still get to pick up whoever we want anyway and we don't have half our salary cap going to the injured list... good luck to GW$ when they get 32 games out of there $6mil over the length of his contract

This comment by Demetriou once again gets to the heart of the problem of GWS and to a lesser extent Gold Coast. The ADMINISTRATOR of the competition is so compromised in their aim to ensure success for these two teams that they are openly willing to disadvantage the existing clubs in order to achieve their goal. They know that the Vic, WA & SA fans are so loyal to their clubs and the game that there is no risk in disenfranchising the heartland supporters for a decade or so in their reach for new markets and money. GWS & GC are not mere football clubs or franchises, they are new PRODUCTS created by the AFL to break into a market they previously could not penetrate.

Those who say we should move on should be aware of the distinction between the need for our club to move on from the Scully scandal and the position of individual supporters.

I believe the club moved on from this immediately after the post Scully press conference which happened on the day of the defection. I also think the club did it brilliantly and with class and in direct contrast to the shameful way GWS, the AFL and Demetriou have handled themselves in the aftermath. That our club has distanced itself from the farce and so capably managed its coaching appointments, the trade week and even the draft is an incredible result in view of the disarray that was evident in July and August.

As for we supporters, given all that's transpired, surely nobody can stand in the way of us died-in-the-wool fans lapping it up as we watch the embarrassment of a shonky bunch of as they sink further and further in the mire?

And this ain't over yet.

Well said WJ...it is quite remarkable how quickly the Club stood up, after the Black Cloud had moved on...But we still deserve to know the truth to all this dirt...

Spot on WJ - we the fans have every right to [censored] about the rat, his father and Dimitrou. He has every right to choose his path in life, but he blatantly lied about it on several occasions, and even pledged undying loyalty and love!

And as regards the title of this thread - INTEGRITY - AFL - a new classic oxymoron.

The AFL couldn't possibly go back on their ruling. They'd be opening up a huge can of worms.

Maybe they're just making noise for the benefit of Sssssssscully Snr, make him feel a bit more legitimate?

Well , no surprise here , especially with Vlad's "Stroke of Genius" comment late last week . Another carefully orchestrated little plan to keep GW$ in the news . There's going to be lots more of this sort of stuff . It's all rather pathetic but what can we do about it ?

Also read that Sheedy reckons they have 12,500 members - what a load of rot ! The lies just keep coming and of course the AFL will back it up .

I only hope it fires up our Club as much as it's fired up the fans . Round 13 can't come around quick enough .

What an absolute joke all this has become! The AFL competition is a farce! If any other club hired a players family, to secure a players services. They be done for salary cap breaches... Salary cap fixing....Draft fixing......the Fixture....What a joke!!!

I agree with Matthews.

Let's re-open the whole thing and have an independent panel look into the entire conduct of the AFL, GWS and the Scully clan and also investigate whether the compensation package offered by the AFL is adequate. Does pick 1 in the 2009 draft + two year's input into a player = two mid first rounders plus at least an extra twelve months before you can activate them.

Let's see some transparency, integrity and some justice at the AFL.

GWS are also petitioning the AFL to be awarded the 2014 premiership cup now on the proviso that they perform the work later. This falls under the GWS clause "delayed workification"

The argument is that if they keep their current players and future concessions they are then a certainty for 2014 glory therefore if they receive the reward now, the players will stay and they will then have the capacity to perform the work required in 2014. "What could be fairer than that?" they say.

And in other news, Pendlebury Snr will be heading up the GWS raffle and Cadbury fund raising department at 150K per annum. He is currently an expert fund raiser across town on 5K per annum

And this from the AFL website ... http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/126642/default.aspx

I love this bit .... The tabloid reports that "Matthews has raised the issue with AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson" but does not elaborate.

"Having walked away from the AFL to join the club, I will be doing everything in the best interests of this club," Matthews said.

Yeah right!

I can certainly see Matthews living up to the italicised bit.

The AFL just wants everyone to move on, and he wants the best outcome for his club.

Ken Wood is the one who got them to put the money in the cap, and he would be one of the few I trust at the AFL to do what is right, and not what is right for the AFL.

I cannot see Wood changing his ruling or altering his findings.

But good on Matthews for annoying head office.

What is disturbing to me is the AFL appears to have lost its moral compass on this issue.

Their whatever it takes attitude to establish a beach head Western Sydney means that actions that would be significant breaches by other clubs become worthy of re-examination, players who take a $1M to become the best paid in the league are courageous, income splitting cap avoidance schemes are "strokes of genius" and anyone who questions the "vision" is victimising GWS and its players.

The reality is this the other clubs (including ours) are making sacrifices to help GWS get established and expect it and the AFL then to play by the spirit of the game and rules. My view: putting parents on a salary creates a distortion in the market for players, players are fully entitled to get the best reward for themselves but that’s exactly what it is hardly an act of courage and throwing money at a player beyond what the market would ordinarily bear is not an act of genius. In my view a CEO who applauds such nonsense and forgets the sacrifices being made by the whole football community is not acting in the best interests of the game.

Finally, GWS appear to have adopted a position of gloating and goading which has been a PR disaster. They deserve the bad press and supporters response.

What GWS should have done is thanked the Clubs (who by the way are the reason the AFL exists) for the sacrifices they are making in talent and financially.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
