Great report thanks. Any idea how Grimes is progressing?

Grimes basically just done lap work from what I saw. However I felt the most impressive workout today was from Tom Mac, out bustled and marked over Brown on one occasion,.

To Maldonboy38, Fan and jayceebee31,

Thanks for your reports. They're much appreciated - keep them going please.

Being mainly office bound ATM, I envy you guys (although I hope to get to at least one session, probably early January during the holiday period for those of us who work).

The situation reminds me of a few lines of poetry from A.B. "Banjo" Patterson -

"I am sitting in my dingy little office, where a stingy

Ray of sunlight struggles feebly down between the houses tall,

And the foetid air and gritty of the dusty, dirty city

Through the open window floating, spreads its foulness over all."

Perhaps not that bad but you get the picture ...

Incidentally, I think Lucas Cook had hip surgery and Nev Jetta's problem was his shoulder.

Grimes basically just done lap work from what I saw. However I felt the most impressive workout today was from Tom Mac, out bustled and marked over Brown on one occasion,.

I got there just as they started and Grimes was in the main group doing run throughs with the majority of the players. He broke off as they did their reps and joined the rehab group where he did some sprinting and straight line running. He was doing that with Davey and Clark (and perhaps Jetta and Petterd but I'm not sure).

Also it was good to see Jack Fitzpatrick in the main group. Max Gawn was also back with the main group.

Grimes did a lot of solo running. Along with Howe he looks the perfect model of a footballer. He doesn't look too far away from the main group.

Bate looks big and strong with a great attitude. His legs are big like Dunns but he is running very well.

Watts takes it all in his stride. He was running with Green in a pair and appeared to handle the sprinting well. I am unsure if he was instructed to keep at Green's pace or not but he didn't look pushed at all. When it came to the match simulation drill he was leading very hard and fast when the ball did come out of the defensive zone.

Max Gawn has the most unco running style but is not slow.

Fitzpatrick is really quick for a big bloke, and during the last few sprints was being encouraged to try and catch Blease and Gysberts in front of him. During the brief kicking drill I was reminded of his natural poor kicking action. I remain unsure about him to be honest.

I also noted the red skin on Tappy's lower leg and I was unsure if it was a rash, or a healing skin graft. He had his sock down so it was clearly seen.

What the hell, Tapscott skin graft?

Where could that have come from?

Great stuff guys. Much appreciated for the thoroughness of the reports.

Many many thanks to Maldonboy, fan and JCB love the reports.

Its so much better feeling positive ! might prove a trifle early but what the hell

it makes me feel good,

Go DEES give 'eM HELL !!!!

Does anyone know if the training is open next Monday, I'll be there as it will be my first day of holidays!

Posted

I would love to know from today were there any drills on our press, rather than an enactment of one with our defenders using techniques to get it out of our def. 50??

Posted

Any thoughts on Couch? Did he train today?

Hoping to get to Friday, might attempt to return the favour of reports.

Posted

Couch did train and he moves well and does well In the running drills, It's hard to say If somebodys any good from watching them run and do a bit of kick to kick. He seems to have a strong work ethic which Is always a good sign.

Kelvin Lawrence Is In the rehab group but hasn't started running yet, I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with him.

I spoke with Mitch Clark last week and he's not far off the main group, said he loves Melbourne the club & the city.

I've been to most sessions and I have to say Tommy Mac impresses me the most, he will play a lot this year and from what I can see he will play forward, he has a massive engine and anybody that saw him at Casey last year will know he can take a contested grab. Don't be surprised to see Watts on a wing or even stints In the midfield..

Posted

Must say I am amazed to hear the description of Tom Mc training, as I thought he had ability, but looked very unco to me in his running. Clearly I was wrong or he has improved.

A million thanks to all who have provided reports - it is really appreciated.

I hope to be able to get to my first session this Friday.

Go DEMONS.

I want to thank all of you who take time out to post on the trainng sessions believe me it helps us o/s people out. The reports help us to keep up to date on what's happening; and believe me your efforts are very much appreciated.

Seems like they are doing a lot of 'round the boundary" and no drills up the corridor. Sound familiar??

What's the tangible difference?

The players applying the press on game will be the same ones applying it in training for that drill.

You can't practice the press if the players pressing start with the ball.

Perhaps it's because we're relatively good at the 'quick movement through the corridor' side of the game and relatively poor at its 'methodical movement around the boundary' counterpart. As you've alluded to, Mark Neeld also has some direct knowledge of how to operate effectively using the second method, and is likely to be sticking to what he knows best.

Thanks for correcting me. As you know, I was late arriving and I therefore reported what I saw. However, he did not join the main group for the time I was there. He has built his body up well since being injured and it won't be long before he does the full training programme.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

I think Kolt looks like he’s im

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
