Boys are out at Gosch's Paddock again this morning.

Pulled over to have a little look.

A lot of ball work early from what I saw.

Nathan Jones and Nicholson were at the front of all the running.

Chunk looks in supreme fitness.

Those that think he has relatively plateaud as a player will be in for a surprise, I think.

We'll be singing his praises for a while to come.

I get the feeling that Jones is a bit of a gym junkie when he is not out surfing (if his tweets are anything to go by). I keep saying it (and keep getting laughed at for it), but I think he is our "Chapman" for more reasons than the lack of hair style. As his kicking for goal improves and as he makes more forays into the forward 50, the similarities will become more and more apparent.

would love to see Chunk kick game changing goals. No reason why he can't.

I for one won't be one of those who are surprised when Jonesy turns it on next year.

Yep agree with everyone above. Jones continually gets bagged on this forum and I just don't understand why, he may not have the silkiest skills or be the fastest player in the comp but he certainly gives his all week in week out which IMO is most important

I think you've partly answered your own question. It's these areas I hope to see improvement. He was a consistent contributor in 2011 without starring. He does give his all but what has been the bug bear of mine is he needs to execute better with his delivery. If he does this he will be a very good contributor.

Fwiw, many refer to it as bagging, but for many it's being critical in areas that can be improved on. He may not be A grade class, but he can execute better to become a good B grade player.

Getting the fastest time at Princess Park may be considered elite endurance, but it doesn't necessarily get you to the ball first, execute well or get you the 4 points. That may seem mean to a few....but it's November.

While what you've said is true, I (and others) feel that Nathan Jones has improved in all the areas you've mentioned every year since he was drafted. Continual improvement is the key to success, IMO.

You cant deny his effort and commitment, he gives everything which is great i agree and i love him for it. But, when you break it down, his skill, and decision making lets us down very often, which hurts the team more.

I think he has gradually improved also. That's not to say there isn't room for more.

Couldn't agree more.

I agree with that Nathan puts in 100% eveery week but he has a problem of continually making the wrong decisions and turning back in to trouble. If he would take the first option instead of hanging on to the ball waiting for something else he would improve enormously. He has to stop trying to break through tackles because he usually gets caught when he does.

In all fairness, I feel that he was often left holding the ball because there simply was no option available to him... he was not getting the support he needed. This is one area I hope that Neeld will identify as requiring a lot of improvement... greater support and running options for players like Jones to clear the ball to.

He wasn't on his lonesome in that regard this year. I think it has a fair bit to do with composure that you get from having a general confidence in the rest of your team mates and that of a structured game plan to play by. If you don't have these two critical things, you're always blazing away your kicks.

All this talk about Jones and no one mentions his missed tackles? Cardinal sin and the most frustrating thing about him. Pun alert: his arms are painted on.

Jones is a good inside/outside depth midfielder. He doesn't have the speed or marking ability to be Chapman. A fit Sylvia can be Chapman.

For all those predicting a huge increase in form, maybe they should consider he's been one of our better trainers for years now. He'll be good next year, just as he was this year, but I wouldn't expect miraculous improvement.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
