Matthew Bate wants out

C'mon Dees, get this one done for Bater. We've flexed our muscles quite well over the past few days, we have arrived, let's be the good cop too!

Agree I'd be disappointed if we didn't do the right thing by the Master, especially considering we'd be getting pick 39 which I reckon is overs anyway.

As I said earlier (replying to B59's comments about Neeld not seeing him as a must-keep), if we are not willing to take up the Pick 39 (which I agree, seems terrible overs to me), then our coach must see a role for the Master. Good luck to Matty if that's the case.

We've lost $cully & Warnock & gained Clark have to delist at least 2 more.

Maric and Juice likely to be those 2.

But would think we will still trade Bate...might get convoluted though

We are going to have a very unhappy boy on our hands and methinks he will stick it up us if he gets the chance. Not sure why 39 wasn't accepted. Hope he can improve and mend bridges.

I don't really know why we played hardball with Bate. With Clark on board he is needed even less, and will struggle to get a game moreso than he did last year. Unless of course Neeld has a plan in mind for him.

Watch him get delisted for nothing next year. Shame really.

Pick 39 would mean our ND picks this year would be 36, 39 & 52. Now they'll have to go into the 70's. Ew!

James Hird was drafted at no.79 ... so there's always hope

This draft picks lower thatn 30 will be a lottery anyway.

I think our guys would have said that unless its a pick above 30 forget it and I am sure bater will get a new role.

He may look back on this and say he is glad it didn't get done.

In his hands now.

...in exceptional circumstances that no longer exist. If the current rules existed back then as they do now, James Hird would've been taken in the top 5, two years later.

Bate played his best footy on the wing and has mostly been played out of position in the last 4 years - Neeld want's to keep him so let's give him a go hey !

You have to back the coach in here, and at the end of it all, Bate is contracted, and if the club decides it wants to work with him for another year under a new coaching regime / system, then so be it.

Unless the Dogs were prepared to pay overs, and it was a deal too good to say no to, then they are within their rights to do so.

Maybe Neeld thought players were getting games ahead of Bate when they shouldn't have been, or Bate wasn't being used in the right manner, who knows.

Tim Harrington just said on SEN that when he spoke to Matty he told him if he couldnt do a trade for him then he will be back at the club for pre season training. Tim said Mark had plans for him. I hope he does because Bate is to good a player to be in Casey.

Im sorry I think he is a good player and with his booming left kicks we need him. Maybe a new coach will help him. Lets remember no one really had a good season htis year.

Neeld must be going to give Bate an opportunity in a new role. Maybe Collingwood/he rated Bate from a distance. He's a big body and a line-breaking kick. He's one-sided but I don't think I've ever seen Ben Johnson kick on his right either. We've invested heavily in a long target, maybe Bate is part on the plan to go long.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
