Shannon Byrnes and Tyson Goldsack

Both players stiff to miss out on granny berths but as always in such cases they may be considering a future elsewhere.

Byrnes would be a good fit for us. 27yo hard bodied small mid/forward with finals/flag experience.

Goldsack also has some good attributes and has direct links to Neeld.

Thoughts?

Don't want to pay overs too much for older players. Bargains is what we need.

We still have to find our own young small forwards. I'm also running short of belief with Wonna's dedication. Lawrence I like so Far.

We quickly have to find our mosquito squadron.

Think Aussie will be delisted and rookied.

Byrnes is a hack. Goldsack may be a good fit.

I quite like Goldsack as a player (good size, strong and the right age for us) but I don't know where he would fit in our backline. No doubt Mark Neeld would some views on this.

I'm not keen on Byrnes. Too old for us, and I'd prefer to play Aaron Davey as a small forward and develop a youngster (Lawrence?) for that role in the longer term.

Having a good physique does not necessarily mean "hard bodied".

He looks big enough but is more of an outside player, he can go in hard, but that is not his forte.

I think there are better options for us.

Such as? Who's going to kick 35+ goals for us next season and pinch hit on the ball?

Davey would seem the clear choice but his form is a major worry.

I am not exactly sure who is another choice, as I have not spent time thinking about it, however I dont really rate him, so I would love you to put up some other choices. Not sure who else is available.

I would like to have Davey stay in the forward line and I would also like to see what the new coaches can do with our current crop of platers.

If there was a really good option out there I am all for a trade, but not Byrnes for me.

Goldsack has some currency. Depends on what we could get him for. Could Goldsack make our best 22? Not interested in trading for depth players.

Byrnes is okay, but not really what we need.

BUMP

Goldsack would be a great fit for us partic if we lose Rivers. Can play fwd and back is a hard body and goes at it hard.

Can see why Neeld would be interested. And wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg. Played a terrific game last night against WCE

Byrnes looked good today in the VFL against Werribee. Mainly because he can take a mark and kick to a target successfully.

Not bad attributes for a footballer. Seriously though one of our biggest problems i reckon is how poor our field kicking is. It is one of the reasons Watts stands out.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
